What you would expect out of Canoni have the EF1.4 and this seem a bit sharper.

Disappointed

I'm very disappointed that the Extender does not work with the RF 70-200 Zoom as the EF 1.4 worked with the EF 7-200 Zoom. Like a fool I didn't read all the details and paid $495 for a almost useless lens. It does work with my RF 600, but needless to say I won't use it much except to take pictures of the moon

works well with RF 100-500 lens

I bought this for my Canon RF 100-500 lens. It works quite well and the reach is incredible! Results have been sharp, primary challenge is the f/10 means that any level of low light results in a very high ISO for an action photos (bird, butterfly). Can't use effectively in deep shade or early/late light situations. Also the lens cannot retract beyond 300 mm because of the protruding element of the extender so you are walking around with quite a long lens. However, well worth the hassle and light limitations when there are birds and butterflies about! And can be used very well for macro work with the incredible reach, really nice shots of a hanging monarch chrysalis today.

Recently switched from 7D+100-400L+1.4 extender to R7+100-400 5.6-8+ 1.4 extender. Comparable image quality at same max focal length, but only half the weight.

Works as it shoud

Works as it shoud. In comaring this to a through the lens 1.4 teleconverter, this one stick furter into the lns becouse the metal housing is narrower. This limits the 100-500 to a 420 to 700. I knock off 2 stars for that reason. The through the lnnse 1.4 teleconverter on a 100-400 doesn't retstrict the lens and gives you a 140 to540 range

will this extender work with an ef to rf adapter?
Asked by: Robin
No, the RF extenders do not work with the EF-RF adapter. The EF-RF adapter doesn't fit over the RF 1.4 or 2.0x teleconverters/extenders. The only way to use a teleconverter with the EF-RF adapters is to use an EF-teleconverter. When using rf 100-500 and 1.4x converter, is there any chance of the 1.4x converter touching the back glass of the 100-500 lens (whether when attaching or zooning)?
Asked by: Michael
Yes there is a chance that this extender can touch the rear element, therefore it can only be used within the 300-500mm range on the RF 100-500mm lens.

RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM (can only be used within 300-500mm range). What does 300-500 range mean? So while on my New R5 (on order) what happens between the 100-300 portion of the zoom?
Asked by: Patrick
When you're using the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM with the teleconverter, it will not allow you to set the lens to anything less than 300mm in focal length due to the design of the teleconverter and rear internals of the lens. Basically, you won't be able to zoom wider than 300mm when using the teleconverter.

Does this Canon Extender RF 1.4x give us a better image than the EF 1.4x? Is this compatible with the 100-400mm 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens or the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM Lens?
Asked by: Brian
The RF extender is made specifically for the RF 100-500mm lens, and the new super-telephoto lenses. When it comes down to image quality, it is suited specifically to get the most out of the RF lenses. It is not compatible with the EF 100-400mm or any EF lens for that matter.
