Engineered to deliver sharp and clear distortion-free views, the Celestron EdgeHD CGE 8" f/10 Aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope is an ideal choice for observation, astrophotography, and imaging objects within or beyond our solar system. It features an aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain optical system consisting of a corrector plate, a spherical primary mirror, and a secondary mirror along with a set of field-flattening lenses integrated into the baffle tube. Complementing the EdgeHD system is the proprietary StarBright XLT optical coating system, which improves light transmission and reflectivity across the entire visual spectrum. The combination of EdgeHD and StarBright XLT produces bright and clear high-resolution images with true color rendition across the entire field of view without distortion, aberrations, or off-axis comas.

Optimized for imaging, the internal focusing system features mirror support clutches to ensure proper alignment and mirror locks to avoid accidental defocusing during long-exposure astrophotography. The optical tube is outfitted with a standard 1.25" visual back to make it easier to find eyepieces, accessories, and imaging gear. For visual observations, a 1.25" star diagonal is included along with a 40mm Plössl eyepiece that yields 51x magnification. The EdgeHD 8" is offered here without a mount or tripod for users who already have a reliable support system and are looking to upgrade or add to their existing gear, but comes with a large CGE dovetail plate that is compatible with Losmandy-style saddles.

Celestron Advanced VX GoTo German Equatorial Mount

Engineered and optimized for astrophotography with mid-sized optical tube assemblies (OTAs), the Celestron Advanced VX GoTo German Equatorial Mount delivers the performance required for clear images through the use of dual-axis low-cog DC servo motors and backlash compensation. Better than I Expected

I expected to be impressed by the telescope but not this impressed. I had little to compare it to given I have not used a telescope much over the last 25 years. I had a little 60mm Meade refractor like a lot of boys had at some point, I imagine, that brought me hours of joy. I recall reading about the SCTs in magazines at the time thinking I would get one someday. Well, that day finally came with my 50th birthday. Over the last few weeks, I have thoroughly enjoyed this OTA, looking mainly at the moon and Saturn while trying to learn how to use the whole set up (I have a Skywatcher HEQ5-R Pro mount, ASIAir Plus controller, ZWO auto focuser and planetary and guide cameras, Celestron OAG and dew ring). I got to observe the latest lunar eclipse with the included 40mm Plossel and snap a few shots with my DSLR, something I’ve always wanted to do. The views have been unreal. The 40mm provides a more than sufficient field of view that appeared consistent from middle to the edge. I could see Saturn’s unique profile easily even at this low magnification. The depth of detail of lunar craters and the crispness of the images with no post-processing blew me away. I do not have images with the ZWO cameras yet (details in separate review), because I am still learning how to use all that. The 50mm finder scope that came with it is just fine, pretty sturdy and gets the job done, though I do wish they’d come standard with a 90 degree finder to more easily look upwards. The included star diagonal is also just fine, though I don’t have experience with higher quality ones to know how it compares, but thus far, I am satisfied with how bright and pinpointed the stars are. I could easily see M31 in a suburban sky with tons of light pollution in the northeastern sky. The focuser knob is smooth even without using the electronic focuser. With it, focusing is amazing. I splurged for a couple of Televue DeLites (15mm and 9mm), and I will tell you the views of Saturn are incredible. I have never been able to see atmospheric details and to see the space between the planet and rings, not to mention at least 4 of its moons. Overall, I cannot recommend this OTA more. It came perfectly collimated, and arrived within only a few days of ordering without scratch.

Not capable of high magnification

Build quality and focus system is excellent, however 1.25 plastic visual back is very cheap and anything inserted in it is loose, it also does not fully illuminate FF sensor. The scope cannot handle high magnification over x200, view is blurry - big disappointment given high price point.

Yes the Celestron EdgeHD CGE 8" f/10 Aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain GoTo EQ Telescope is capable of viewing planets, nebulae and galaxies. It is also suitable for use in astrophotography when used with a camera.

No, the EdgeHD CGE 8" OTA 91030-XLT comes with the wider dovetail that cannot fit on the NexStar Evolution Mount, which accepts the skinnier CG-5 dovetail. The dovetail bar must be swapped in order to fit.
