SmallHD Cine 7 Overview

Use the lightweight 7" Cine 7 Touchscreen Monitor with Camera Control Kit from SmallHD to provide professional monitoring for your Sony VENICE, VENICE 2, BURANO, or FX6 camera camera with a sharp 7" display suitable for indoor or outdoor use. The kit includes the Cine 7 monitor, an L-series battery mount, a sun hood, a screen protector, an 8GB SD card, and the Sony camera control kit that includes software and an Ethernet control cable.

The Cine 7 monitor supports up to UHD 4K HDMI output as well as various HD and SD formats via one full-size HDMI input, one HDMI output, one 3G-SDI input, and one 3G-SDI selectable input/output. The monitor also supports cross conversion from HDMI to SDI and from SDI to HDMI.

The camera control software loads onto the monitor and allows you to control Sony VENICE, VENICE 2, BURANO, or FX6 camera functions protocol such as run/stop, ND filters, fps, status, color temperature, LUT configuration, playback, shutter, timecode, media status, battery status, and menu control, all via the Cine 7 touchscreen. The control cable, SDI cable, and USB-to-LEMO adapter allow the monitor to connect to the camera.

The Cine 7 features a bright 1800 cd/m², 322 ppi, 1920 x 1200 IPS LCD touchscreen with 3D LUT compatibility. Using the intuitive Swipe OS3, you can turn on and save pages of various monitoring tools and focusing aids with a finger tap. At the rear of the monitor, an L-series battery mount enables you to power the unit.

Great on Komodo

So far it’s held up well. Seems to have a good build quality compared to the older models. It’s a bit heavy but the metal use over plastic makes sense. 7in might be bigger than some folks want but I prefer a bigger image to really see what I’m getting better for checking focus. The on board tools are pretty good as well and fast to use, someone spent a lot of time designing the UI. The camera control is seamless and every menu in the camera exists in camera control (for RED Komodo at least). One thing that wasn’t specified at the time of purchase was which cable it came with - it actually comes with both a 9-pin EXT and a 4pin control cable for breakout boxes. My only two cons: I wish it had another mounting point in the top, and I’m not a huge fan of the focus assist (maybe there’s something I’m missing), but I prefer it on Atomos monitors.

Can this except a 4K/QHD signal, but output to it's 1080p panel? I have this monitor with Shape SDI cable and it doesn't work.

Yes, the SmallHD 7" Cine 7 Touchscreen Monitor with Sony VENICE Camera Control Kit can see a 4K signal but only over HDMI 2.0 In (4Kp30). The 3G-SDI Input sees up to 1080p60.

Can you use touch to focus when paired with sony system? Burano/Fx6

No, the SmallHD 7" Cine 7 Touchscreen Monitor with Sony VENICE Camera Control Kit does not support touch to focus. The touch control on the monitor is used to control the focus assist tools that you are using, but it cannot directly control the focus of the camera.

SmallHD will be releasing Burano control solutions in the future. At this time, the SmallHD 7" Cine 7 Touchscreen Monitor with Sony VENICE Camera Control Kit only supports the Venice.

If I buy the kit with the red DSMC 2 control software, will that also work with the komodo or do I have to buy the komodo software add on?

The power draw from the SmallHD Cine 7 in the SmallHD Cine 7 Touchscreen On-Camera Monitor with ARRI Control Kit (L-Series) will vary depending on how you use it, so it is a range. The minimum power draw would be 8.1Wh and the maximum would be 19Wh.

Yes, you can install multiple SmallHD camera licenses on the SmallHD Cine 7 Touchscreen On-Camera Monitor with RED DSMC2 Control Kit.
