Nikon WR-R11a Reviews

More capable than the competition

The MOST IMPORTANT feature of the Nikon Remote Controllers, assuming you have a Nikon WR-T10 to control it, is that the WR-T10 has a separate button that can be programmed (in the camera) to do other shooting tasks. If you have set up your camera so that it does NOT focus when you press the shutter half-way, but instead you use the AF-On button to focus, then this is the product for you! You can set the extra button on the WR-T10 remote to do the AF-On button. Of course, this feature means that you can release the camera's shutter without disturbing the focus, & yet focus when you want to. None of the competing remote control products that I have seen, have this feature. Unfortunately, for some crazy reason, the Nikon WR-T10 remote is hard to find, unless you order the WR-R11a/WR-T10 set from Japan. Nikon needs to bring back the "WR-R11a/WR-T10 Set" combo!

Works Great *this is one part of a larger system*

The Nikon WR-R11a combines a 10-pin remote port adapter with a 3-channel wireless receiver. It works with the Nikon WR-T10 remote trigger. Nikon previously split the 10-pin port adapter and the receiver into 2 components. If you have a Nikon D850, this is the device you need (along with the WR-T10.) However, if you have one of the following cameras: Z 7, Z 6, D750, D610, D600, D7500, D7200, D7100, D7000, D5600, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3300, D3200, D3100, D90, COOLPIX A, COOLPIX P7700, COOLPIX P7800, COOLPIX P1000, you do not need this device, you only need to purchase the WR-R11b receiver. The WR-R11b will plug right into your camera body without the need for a 10-pin adapter. It's a confusing, expensive system, but it works well once you have the correct parts for your specific camera.

What is the advantage of the WR-R11a over the ...

What is the advantage of the WR-R11a over the Nikon SU-800 commander other than size/weight? Thanks for your time.
Asked by: Wayne
The Nikon SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander Unit would allow you to control an unlimited number of Nikon Speedlights (the Nikon SB-R200, SB-910, SB-900, SB-800, SB-700, SB-600, SB-500, and SB-5000) for up to three (3) groups to a distance up to 66 feet. However, do note the lights are controlled line-of-sight via infrared optical output, so use in bright sunlight can reduce the maximum operating range. The Nikon WR-R11a Remote Controller would allow you to control up to 18 Nikon SB-5000 speedlights on three (3) channels. When communicating with off-camera speedlights, you have a range of 98 feet. As it uses radio transmission, you do not have issues with line-of-sight communication.
