Nikon WR-R11a Reviews

Like New Design

I got this to replace the old design version of the remote controller. In that design it was two pieces of which the bottom part broke. I like the new one piece design, it is smaller overall and works well.

UPDATE to my review on WR-R11a

After posting my 3 star review for its apparent fragility and lack of rotational positioning for better protection, I found a solution using my ProMediaGear L-plate on the Z8. Like the solution using their plate on the Z7 with the WR-R10 (now replaced by WR-R11a). It's now well protected within the adjustable L plate.  Highly recommend ProMediaGear for their well thought out and flexible system. I now have a robust reliable flash & remote trigger solution that can withstand shooting challenges. Pix below, 3rd is Z7 with WR-R10. NOTE: Out of the box, the WR-R11a did NOT work as flash trigger. Required firmware update of BOTH Z8 and WR-11a and some tries to get everything paired and predictable.

What is the advantage of the WR-R11a over the ...

What is the advantage of the WR-R11a over the Nikon SU-800 commander other than size/weight? Thanks for your time.
Asked by: Wayne
The Nikon SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander Unit would allow you to control an unlimited number of Nikon Speedlights (the Nikon SB-R200, SB-910, SB-900, SB-800, SB-700, SB-600, SB-500, and SB-5000) for up to three (3) groups to a distance up to 66 feet. However, do note the lights are controlled line-of-sight via infrared optical output, so use in bright sunlight can reduce the maximum operating range. The Nikon WR-R11a Remote Controller would allow you to control up to 18 Nikon SB-5000 speedlights on three (3) channels. When communicating with off-camera speedlights, you have a range of 98 feet. As it uses radio transmission, you do not have issues with line-of-sight communication.
