    Domke FA-031 Reviews

FA-031 Shoulder Pad is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 157.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great idea, but fell apart in less than 2 week Maybe mine was just a fluke, since other people seem to love this. I have used Domke bags for more than 30 years and have never found a bag that's nearly as workable as a pro photojournalist. I bought the shoulder pad with a new bag two weeks ago. It does an amazing job keeping the bag on the shoulder even when wearing a slippery winter coat. Unfortunately in less than two weeks of use, the pad is nearly entirely detaching from the portion that attaches to the camera bag strap. Hoping B&H will replace with a new one. My other suggestion would be for Domke to make the pad on the underside a stylish black instead of the beige color that looks like something out of a 1950's orthopedic catalog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use this on all of your bags! I bought this with a Domke F2 bag and wow! I love this shoulder pad. I've since bought this for all of my photo bags plus messenger bags that get heavy after a long day. This has an angled padding and adjusts easily to on the shoulder or over the shoulder/across the body carrying style. The pad is thick and angled so you can easily adjust it to your body plus it removes easily if you want to switch to another bag...but for less than $ I recommend getting one for each bag. I shoot with a 1ds Mark II body and several L lenses...add flashes, batteries and other items to my bag and it's easily over 20lbs. This pad makes it easy for all day use and I especially like it on my Crumpler bags - which come with horrible shoulder pads IMO.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Domke Shoulder Pad Got a heavy bag full of gear that's pulling your shoulder out of place? Give this item a try. Its relatively inexpensive, and does a darn good job of taking the pinch out of poorly padded shoulder straps. The padding material feels a bit like the expensive mattress memory foam; its pliable yet firm enough to maintain its shape. One very cool feature is that the pad is offset (one side is thicker than the other), which helps to keep your shoulder strap from slipping off your shoulder. This may seem like a minor point, but I think it makes a big difference. The pad attaches with two Velcro straps, and can accommodate a 2 1/4 strap. The space between the two Velcro straps is 6.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from works as advertised Let me start by saying that I *hate* shoulder bags! Always have. They are mostly uncomfortable to carry on the one shoulder, but convenient in other ways. Domke shoulder bags are the only ones that I tolerate, I even like using some of them. This pad makes using a shoulder bag (almost) a pleasure! It distributes the weight and pressure on my shoulder in such a way that I do not find carrying the bag a chore. It's also constructed so that it resists slipping off your shoulder. Every shoulder bag should come with one of these! But since they don't, it's well worth the asking price to purchase one (or several) of these to make your life easier. Highly recommended!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Extra Padding Wanted it to help with some of the loads i have to carry, including a rather heavy business satchel. Planned uses were to soften camera loads, business loads, all sorts of loads, including tripod slings and etc. Unfortenutely the velcro straps it uses to secure itself to the straps are rather short and fit few of the slings i have. I'll be extending them myself which shouldn't be a hard mod. Other then that, its an improvement over basic pads, but i think theres better out there. For the money though, can't go wrong if you're having issues with your pads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Relief I use a Domke F-803 bag for audio equipment for field recording and interviews (an audio bag like a Porta Brace is too conspicuous). The bag's strap is excellent, but walking around with the bag holding a couple of mics, a recorder, a Mixpre, cables, extra batteries, some Cliff Bars and a few other things begins to make my shoulder ache after a couple of hours. This pad gives me an extra hour of use on each shoulder. My wife thinks it looks like something torn from a piece of supportive medical equipment, like a crutch, and it does, but there's a reason why they put padding on crutches.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't help much I bought this shoulder pad for my Domke bag because my shoulder was aching after a regular day of use. The pad is well constructed, but it's fairly heavy for a shoulder pad and isn't particularly soft. I quickly found that the shoulder pad made it more difficult than usual to sling the bag in front of me so I could pull out my camera. It was somewhat uncomfortable, but I thought that it would just take some getting used to. After several days of use though, I realized that my shoulder was hurting even more than when I didn't have the pad on at all. Maybe I'm weird, but this shoulder pad didn't really do what it's supposed to for me. My solution now is just to carry less in the bag to reduce weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not only for Domke I got this orginally with my F-803 (Sand). I used it for a couple of days and realized that my bag isn't heaving enough use the shoulder pad.The padding is actually slanted so it's very comfortable for your left or right shoulder which one was aspect I was surprised to see. I've sold it to a friend who has a Billingham Hadley Pro bag without a shoulder pad and his gear is much heavier then mine. It looks great with his kakhi colour bag and compare to a Billingham $ leather strap with no padding it's a steal.I would definitaly get this shoulder pad again if I load my bag up with more gear.
