Canon ES-71 II Lens Hood
Key Features
  • Fits Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens
  • Black Felt Interior Lining
The ES-71II Lens Hood from Canon is compatible with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens and features a black felt interior lining to absorb light and therefore reduce unwanted light reaching the lens. Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Is this compatible with the 50mm 1.8 STM?

The Canon ES-71 II Lens Hood is not compatible with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM. The Canon ES-68 Lens Hood is compatible and you can find it here: https://bhpho.to/3Jr5pjn.

how much room is there on the inside to attach ND filters? I see that some 58mm NDs jut out a bit and I'm wondering if they're compatible with the lens hood.

I have this hood and use it on a 50mm prime lens. It is easy, if you remove the hood before attaching any filters then the hood fits back with no problems. You can attach a filter with the hood on it is just a bit tight getting your fingers between the filter and the hood to tighten it and you can easily touch the filter and smudge it up a bit. I use a polarizer with it and can adjust spin the filter with the hood on, but your hand is in the front of the lens blocking your view of the subject of the photo making the adjustment not as streamlined as if the hood was not on, but many hoods give this problem with adjustable filters.

question

Does this screw in securely (like a filter does) or snap on?
Asked by: Anonymous
This hood attaches like most other lens hoods. There is a large thread around the end of the lens barrel. This hood does *not* attach to the filter threads the way the nifty fifty f/1.8 lens hood does.

since this has an outer diameter of 62mm I'm wondering if it gets in the way of bayonet style hoods. Specifically the dedicated hood for the canon 50mm f/1.4
Asked by: Teddy
This IS the dedicated bayonet-mount lens hood for the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4. Not sure what your 62mm measurement refers to.
