Pelican V525 Reviews

Great hard shell case!

I was shopping around for a new camera case, looking to upgrade from the soft side bag that I had. Ultimately, I decided on this Pelican case, based on functionality and price. It’s definitely well worth the money! Although not waterproof, it is dust proof and water resistant, which gives me much more peace of mind than my previous bag. If you’re looking to upgrade to a hard shell, and the fact that it’s not waterproof is not a dealbreaker, this is a solid choice.

Solid, protective case for good price

First impressions: I just received this Pelican Vault V525 case. It appears sturdy and should withstand the usual knocks on the road and more. It may not be as solid as my Nanuk 935 case, but it is a bit lighter weight, which is good. The handles are not padded, which is a slight deficiency but easily remedied by putting on padded grips. The extenable handle for rolling the case can be lifted with one hand by pushing on the catch that holds the handle in the up or down position. However, lowering the handle will require two hands, one to unlatch the catch and the other to lower the handle. This is not a major deficiency, but just be aware that the release for the handle is not built into the top of the handle but is on the body of the case. The case rolls well, but the wheels are a bit smaller than on the Nanuk. Replaceing the wheels may require unscrewing the assembly that holds the handle and the wheels to the back of the case, which should be simple to do. Being able to remove the handle/wheels assembly would make the case portable just with the carry handles (one on top, one on the side), as well as making it a bit lighter. The interior lid consists of two layers of solid foam padding. It does not have fittings to screw on a lid organizer, but one could use double-sided tape or a spray adhesive if installing a lid organizer. The padded dividers can can be arranged in infinite configurations and changed at will. The whole insert containing the padded dividers lifts out. I suspect that Pelican took a hint from Nanuk in designing the latches for this case. They release easily by pushing a button in the center of the latch, and they easily snap closed. They are easier to operate than the other type of Pelican latches, which require a fair amount of pressure to snap them into place. I assume these latches make a sufficiently tight seal to justify the dust and moisture-proof claims. Pelican does NOT claim that this case is waterproof. It does have a pressure release valve. With cases like this, I always put a thin layer of silicone grease on the rubber gasket from the start. I ordered the case in gray, which is a medium gray color. If there is anything worth noting after some use of the case, I'll add it to the review.

Will the lid organizer for the 1510 fit in this model?
Asked by: Kyle
I have the Pelican 1535Air, which appears to have the same dimensions as this one, and I was able to add the 1519 Lid Organizer without any problem. The back of the organizer is just (stiff) cardboard, so all you have to do is poke 4 holes in it to screw the organizer to the underside of the lid -- at least that's what I did and it worked fine. I don't see where adding the organizer to this model would be any different. If the organizer is too wide (as was suggested) -- again, it's only cardboard, so you should be able to trim it a bit if necessary.

Well this work as A carry on for airline travel?
Asked by: Debra
Please see https://tsatraveltips.us/carry-on-luggage-size/ for the most up to date information by airline. Most airlines accept up to 22 x 14 x 9", which are the measurements of the Pelican V525 Vault Rolling Hard Case with Padded Divider Insert (Black). As such, it should be fine for most domestic (US) airlines.

If I purchased two of these, do the stack well; i.e., fit together in a "locked" position so the top one won't slide off?
Asked by: Gregg
Look into the Explorer line of cases. (Sold by BH) I have two. They do "lock on" to each other. From what I remember, even different size Explorer cases lock onto each other. I have not found another brand of cases where different size cases, of the same manufacturer, lock on to each other. For a case similar in size to the PelicanV525, look into Explorer Cases 5221.
