With the Mixcast 4, you'll have everything you need to record a high-quality multicast podcast straight to an SD card or straight to a stereo USB feed, for instantaneous streaming over your favorite platform.

You'll enjoy the form factor of eight faders at your fingertips, as well as the eight sound-effect pads, and the built-in 5" touchscreen for deeper control. You'll be able to record up to 14 tracks at a time straight to an SD card, or record stereo over USB straight to your DAW, or streaming platform. In addition to TASCAM's Podcast Editor Software, the Mixcast 4 ships with an included AC adapter and a USB Type-C cable.

Comprehensive Recording for Podcasting
Record up to four people in person with the built-in mic pres, which accept XLR-1/4" connections for all manner of microphones. In addition, you'll find stereo line inputs with selectable 1/4" or 3.5mm connections to interface with phones and consumer devices. Pair this with a Bluetooth input for wireless connections to phones and devices, and you'll have everything you need to capture audio for all your guests.
Mix-Minus Functionality
Stereo line inputs and the Bluetooth inputs both come with mix-minus functionality, so your remote guests won't hear an echo of themselves when they're talking.
Headphones Galore
Four independently controlled headphone outputs are on hand, but that's not all. A 3.5mm TRRS headphone output mirrors headphone output 1, should you only have a headset with a 3.5mm connection on hand. The Mixcast 4 also provides a Talkback function that allows you to speak to the participants privately over their headphones, as well as guests connected via USB, smartphone, and Bluetooth.
Pads and Faders
With 8 faders and 8 sound pads (in 8 banks) under your fingers, you'll feel like a consummate professional. You'll have full sound pad control for editing and triggering sound effects, and transport functionality for one-touch recording. Adjust levels between pads and switch sound pad banks while recording for access to more sounds. There's even a normalizing function for pad sources.
Export Files in Multiple Formats
Export files in WAV, MP3, and MP4 formats.
Record How You Like, When You Like
Record to an SD card to work without a computer, or route the Mixcast 4 into a Mac, Windows, iOS, or Android device for a 14-in / 2-out audio capture.
Included Software
The Mixcast 4 comes with TASCAM's Podcast Editor software, for basic editing and mixing duties as well as control over the sound pads.

I thoroughly shopped before choosing an interface, consulting with sound pros. They convinced me that I would not be disappointed with this purchase and they're right!

Best Recorder/Mixer for Working Journalist

By Frank
Rated 5 out of 5
Date: 2022-12-29

I'm a journalist who records voice overs and many interviews, both over phones and via Zoom, in a home studio. I've used the Rodecaster Pro, Rodecaster Pro II, Focusrite Vocaster 2 and now the Tascam Mixcast 4. For my work, I prefer the Tascam device over the others. The Rodecaster Pro II would work fine one minute and need a re-set the next. It was too complex and not reliable enough for my work. The Tascam does it all for me and is rock solid reliable. It it built well and the latest software is very stable and intuitive. I like having separate Bluetooth and hard-wired mobile phone interface. All the features are naturally laid out and easier to use than the other devices. Though the included DAW is nice, I tend to use stereo files sent to the desktop of my iMac. At the $299 B&H price, this device is very cost effective and an excellent performer.

This is a really nice deck, with several nice quality of life features. Many people will be looking at this vs. the Rodecaster Pro (original) and while they're fairly equal in a lot of ways, I'd choose this one for a few reasons: -This device just came out and is getting firmware updates. It's pretty much the end of the line for the original Rodecaster Pro. -Several nice physical advantages, including XLR combo jacks, 3.5 line out, TRRS headphone input on front, and mobile channel that can toggle between line inputs or phone. The Rode allows you finer granular control over some audio settings currently. However, the Tascam has had 3 firmware updates already, adding features that the Rodecaster currently has like dB meters on screen, one-touch channel shortcuts, etc. So I'd expect it to get most of the features that matter to people that the RCP has. Vs. the Rodecaster Pro 2, it's not really competitive. However, that's a 40% cost jump (at least) and many of those things (like being able to re-color channel lights) just aren't that important to most people. Being able to reroute outputs is, as are line inputs, so if you're needing those things, go with the RCP2. Or if you're using a mic that needs a cloudlifter, just go with a RCP2, as by the time you buy a cloud lifter and RCP or Tascam Mixcast, you're already at the price of an RCP2. For the price though, I'm super happy with the Tascam. I thought I wouldn't like the way it looked, due to most pics online being top-down and the bezels looking big, but it's an illusion and it looks great in person and on my desk. It's also built like a tank -- the chassis is solid and heavy, the sliders are smooth, and all the knobs and jacks on the back seem solid and high quality. The touchscreen is large and bright (I saw one reviewer mention it was a bit dark, but he must have gotten a lemon as my screen is pretty vivid). The included software is simple and will do the job for a beginning podcaster, and of course you can use other software if you outgrow it. Pros -great build quality -future firmware updates as it's not end of life -combo jacks, TRRS front input, 3.5 out on back -sound pads named on screen -great audio quality -full size SD card slot Cons -not a RodeCaster Pro 2 -software isn't as mature as RCP1 -not the best firmware upgrade process currently -if you need a Cloudlifter for your mic, just get an RCP2.

The mixer is very easy and quick to set up, feels solid and well made, and can work for a many different types of projects. I set mine up for a podcast in under ten minutes with limited knowledge on audio mixers, so it is very intuitive and the multi-track recording made it very easy to edit and publish.

Outstanding Intuitive Mixer and Interface

By Howard
Rated 4 out of 5
Date: 2023-01-24

I recently bought both the Rodecaster Pro II and This Mixcast 4 to determine which was best suited for my use case. Both are outstanding devices but I actually preferred the Mixcast 4. Why? It's by far more intuitive to both use and to set up and all of the channels and sound pads are labelled so you don't have to memorize 64 sound effects nor which channel is which input. The Preamps on both are super clean and the build quality on the Mixcast is solid. One of the things I really appreciated on the Tascam was having both Balanced 1/4 monitor outputs and a 3.5mm unbalanced. This for me is a big deal because I use this device as an USB audio interface and my computer monitor is a TV Soundbar that only takes optical HDMI or 3.5mm input. On every other interface I've used (including the Rodecaster) that only has balanced outputs, this is a problem because it produces all kinds of hum and noise going from the " outputs into the unbalanced input. Many desktop speakers including Bose Computer Monitor speakers and others only have RCA or 3.5 inputs. My Motu M4 interface has both balanced and unbalanced outputs and it works flawlessly and now, so too does this MIXCAST 4. Thank You Tascam. The only and biggest shortcoming (for me) with the MIXACST and The Rode is that it is impossible to toggle off channel or mic monitoring from the speakers or headphone outputs. This is a problem because if you're like me who lives on Zoom, MS Teams or other conferencing apps, the mic monitoring creates all kinds of mic feedback. As I said to both Rode and Tascam in customer service exchanges - virtually every USB Interface has the ability take the mic out of the monitor mix so you can receive the PC / USB audio without feedback. They both claimed Well this is a mixer to which I replied No, It's an interface and a mixer and as an interface this is a huge problem. It seems I'm not the only one with this concern; Rode has now released a beta firmware to toggle off Mic Monitoring. I've asked Tascam to do the same as a feature request. Let's see what happens. Lastly, I want to give a shout out to Tascam for their outstanding customer support. When I was setting up the MC4 up I had a question. I called their California CS number, left a message and had a call back to trouble-shoot 15 minutes later. That's not just impressive, it's unheard of really. My final comment would be this, by all accounts the Rodecaster Pro II is a more sophisticated Podcast Studio. It provides more granular control, more gain in the Mic Pre-Amps and has more functions. But for a guy like me, who just needs and wants a compressor and noise gate, multiple mic inputs and interface combined, The MIXCAST is the perfect device. The Rode is an F-18 with all the complexity of an F-18, the Mixcast is a smooth efficient Learjet with intuitive controls that gets you where you want to go smoothly, easily and quickly.

Has anyone tried the USB Power Cable from Rode (DC-USB1) to see if it works? The voltage is the same, and the screw-on connector looks identical.
Asked by: Bob
We do not recommend using the Rode DC-USB1 USB Power Cable with the Tascam Mixcast 4. The RodeCaster Pro uses AC power while the Mixcast 4 requires DC power. Tascam specifically points out that only the included Tascam power adapter should be used to power the Mixcast 4. Using adapters from other manufacturers may cause damage and will definitely void your warranty.
