FlexShooter FS02011 Reviews

No lock down

Unable to get the head to lock down. No matter how much tightening of the set screw the head will not keep my lens in place. It creeps just with a little pressure applied to the camera in any direction. Not my idea of what I thought I was buying.

Not as good as intended

After experienced 2 long trips, 5 weeks and 7 weeks, and now I am back for a in-depth review. To begin with, I am very disappointed with the gimbal-like function. The main issue is it is smooth enough for panning action but not tilting. For tilting, there is a spring embedded. Because of that embedded spring it will generate a counter-force while I am trying to tilt the ball head and that counter-force would generally create jerking motion in the process. If you are using it strictly with still photography then it may be ok but not video since the jerking motion is really annoying. Second, it still related with the panning and tilting motion. If I adjust the tension just right for the panning then it's not enough for the tilting which means it could be easily tilting without my intention. If I adjust it closer to the tilting then the panning would be way too tight to move. I am very disappointed with the gimbal-like feature in this ball head and will use it strictly as a normal ball head which is fine but must buy a separate gimbal head for the tilting and panning motion. This defeated the purpose of purchasing this FlexShooter ball head.

Is this a good alternative to a gimbal head? I would be mounting an RF 600 F4 to it.
Asked by: John
The FlexShooter Pro Ball Head with Arca-Type Flip-Lever Receiver can handle a Canon RF 600mm f/4 L IS USM Lens, but I would say it is a different shooting experience from a gimbal head while it does offer more control and specificity than most other ball heads.
