Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S Overview

The Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S Lens with UV Filter Kit from B&H bundles the fast, normal-length prime lens with a 82mm multicoated UV filter to absorb ultraviolet light and protect the front of the lens.

Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S Lens

Built for speed and exacting sharpness, Nikon's NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S is a fast, normal-length prime featuring advanced optics and a bright design to suit everything from available-light portraiture to selective-focus documentary subjects. The f/1.2 maximum aperture excels in difficult lighting conditions and offers impressive control over depth of field to help isolate subject matter against a blurred background. A series of extra-low dispersion and aspherical elements also help to achieve high sharpness, notable clarity, and accurate rendering while ARNEO and Nano Crystal Coats, as well as a Super Integrated Coating, suppress flare, ghosting, and surface reflections for improved contrast and color fidelity.

Complementing the optical design, a multi-focus system, which employs two stepping motors, helps to realize impressively fast, accurate, and quiet focus performance, along with full-time manual focus override, to suit both stills and video needs. The lens also has a unique physical design, which incorporates a top OLED information panel that can be used to quickly confirm aperture and focus settings, and an assignable L.Fn button permits making exposure and settings adjustments via the lens. Additionally, a programmable control ring can be set for intuitive adjustment over a variety of camera and exposure settings.

Bright normal-length prime is designed for FX-format Z-mount mirrorless cameras, but can also be used with DX models where it provides a 75mm equivalent focal length.
Impressively bright f/1.2 maximum aperture excels in low lighting conditions and also offers extensive control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques.
Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.
Two extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color rendering.
ARNEO and Nano Crystal Coats are used to prevent ghosting, reflections, and flare in order to realize improved contrast and clarity when working in strong lighting and backlit conditions. The Nano Crystal Coat controls incidental light from a diagonal direction while the ARNEO Coat controls incidental light from a vertical direction. A Super Integrated Coating is also featured on multiple elements to help ensure consistently accurate colors.
Multi-focus system incorporates two separate AF drive units, which are synchronized, to deliver especially fast and accurate focusing performance. This system uses stepping motors, which offer impressively smooth and quiet autofocus performance that is well-suited to both stills and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also possible and an internal focusing design is used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
Programmable Control Ring is, by default, set to adjust manual focus, but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.
Integrated OLED lens information panel allows you to quickly confirm aperture setting, focus distance, and depth of field figures right on the lens in both bright and dark situations.
Assignable L.Fn button works in conjunction with camera-based Fn buttons to provide a seamless point for quickly changing exposure settings and other functions.
Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.
Dust- and moisture-resistant lens barrel benefits the lens' use in inclement conditions.

Chiaro Pro 82mm 98-UVATS UV Filter

The Pro 82mm 98-UVATS UV Filter is one of Chiaro’s highest-rated protective UV filters with 98% light transmission. It’s ideal for photographers of all levels who demand high-quality glass and other essential features for excellent image fidelity and construction.

To achieve 98% light transmission, Chiaro uses highly-polished optical glass, multi-coating, and additional advanced elements that improve the filter’s light transmission. A scratch-resistant coating minimizes scratching of the glass and helps assure that water, oil, dust, and fingerprints are removed with a gentle wipe. Its hard-anodized aluminum filter ring is designed to screw on and off effortlessly, and it is thin to prevent vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses. Side knurling helps assure that you’ll have a firm grip when attaching or removing your filter.

Image quality is what matters most at Chiaro. The company has tested and combined many features and essentials to achieve superior image quality and the highest light transmission. To help take the confusion out of selecting a filter, Chiaro prominently displays the light transmission levels so that you can choose the perfect filter for your lens and photo session.

98% Light Transmission

Protecting your lens doesn't mean you have to lose optical quality. By using highly-polished optical glass and advanced coatings, Chiaro offers a 98% transmission rate, which is an excellent transmission rate for glass. And the company verifies the ratings with ISO certified lab testing.

Resistance Coating

The layers of advanced resistance coating on the filter are designed to resist moderate scratches, and allow you to easily clean your filter. Water beads up and rolls off your filter, and oil and fingerprints can come off with a gentle wipe. Dust and debris won't adhere to the filter and can be removed with a puff of air.

Polished Optical Glass

Glass that's polished to perfection is essential to achieve a high level of light transmission. The optical glass in this Chiaro filter is highly-polished for flatness that ensures excellent optical clarity.

Multi-Coating

Multi-coating enhances light transmission to the demanding level set for all Chiaro filters. It reduces unwanted internal reflections and ghosting that can compromise your images.

UV Protection

The filter blocks UV light and reduces the bluish cast of daylight that can affect color accuracy, especially at higher altitudes.

Hard Anodized Aluminum Construction

The process of hard anodizing toughens and strengthens the aluminum for a lightweight yet durable filter ring.

Slim Design

Measuring only 3.2mm, this filter is slim enough to use on wide-angle lenses without experiencing vignetting.

Top and Side Knurling

In addition to top knurling, Chiaro added side knurling to better grip the filter when you're attaching and removing it, or when you're stacking filters.

Secure Attachment

It takes two full turns to mount the filter on your lens. This feature will securely hold your Chiaro filter through the most demanding photo shoots.

Front Threads

The front threads on the filter allow you to stack filters by screwing them onto your Chiaro filter.

Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S Reviews

Finally a Nikon 50mm!

This has quickly become a favorite lens that rarely makes it off of the Z9. The low light capabilities have been impressive. What is more unique though is the sharpness stopped down compared to other lenses. There has always been this gap between 35 and 105 that the 50 f/1.2 meets where the 58 f/1.4 and 50 f/1.4 just could not reach.

This is the top heaven of all 2022 lenses

This lens is literally the best photo lens that you can get from the world in 2022. It is much better than the new Noct. It is much better than 35mm 1.8. There is not comparison you can find the similar lens on the market. Creamy bokeh, low light performance, and sharp image, and what else do you expect? Yes the only problem is it is too heavy, but in the photo lens industry, this nails every brand. This is said by a person who experienced all lenses from Angenieux to Zhongyi. At this price level, it is the king.

Less then what I hoped for

I've been using my 35mm 1.8 for everything; couple sessions, family, portraits and I was IN LOVE WITH IT. I just wanted a better aperture so I splurged. I had my first family session and it was such a bust I was so disappointed. Someone mentioned that it was super fast I found the opposite to be true. It couldn't focus fast enough for little moving toddlers and I missed 1/2 my shots because of it. I personally don't think it's worth the hype. Maybe it's because I was so used to my 35 but I honestly felt like that was almost 10X better nonetheless. I was really excited that this was Nikons best lens and all I can say is I don't think it's worth it and I'll probably end up using my 35mm way more and it's 1/4 the price of the 50mm

Nice but heavy lens.

Nice quality lens but heavy and long for a 50mm. Will not carry in the field due to weight.

Bulky, but extremely sharp

I bought this lens to be my overall go-to on most situations, sincerely, I wasn't expecting to be so sharp, and overall it hasn't let me down. Optical quality is spot on, super fast auto focus, with the image stabilization working as intended, it works great, in comparisson with the Nikon 70-200 f/ 2.8 for the F mount, with the FTZ Adapter. The bokeh is something else, extremely smooth, even tough using an older body (Nikon Z6, sometimes the body doesn't catch the focus plane exactly on the place you focus on) but, overall, I think is a great lens. The only withdraw, is the weight and the clunkiness overall, if you are planing on a long hike (I took it to Patagonia, on a 12 hr hike to Torres del Paine for the first time) it weighs on you. The construction, even though it feels like plastic, it is built like a freight train, on the above mentioned trip, a tree branch fell on top of my bag and camera, and it took it like a champ.

Best Lens Ever

I used this lens at a catering hall with no flash. Every picture was tack sharp and properly exposed. Best portrait lens I've ever used.
