I have tried a lot of smooth papers and the Canson Arches 88 wins the race for some of my images. It's smooth but not real smooth and it offers just the right amount of whiteness. It looks great and feels great as well. It's soft and yet I have also found seems to hold up to scuffing real well too. I use gloves but papers get tossed around. I've been very please with it.

Arches 88 is an absolutely gorgeous paper. The surface is very smooth and virtually disappears from view. The color gamut is quite large for matte, and Dmax is exceptionally high with excellent retention of detail in the deepest shadows. It is probably the most neutral (i.e. white) non-OBA matte paper that I have ever seen. How Canson managed that trick is beyond my understanding. I love printing on matte, especially B&W images. In recent years, Epson Legacy Fibre has been my choice amongst premium papers, but it will now be pushed into the second tier by Arches 88.
