The GIGH4383LR Series 4 Center Ball Head from Gitzo is an Arca-type compatible ball head that is compatible with Systematic 3, 4, and 5 tripods, has a load capacity of 66 lb, an independent panning lock for 360° rotation, and a height of 4.9". The head weighs 2 lb and has a tungsten disulfide coating to help keep the ball movement smooth while it minimizes sticking and slipping. This thing is a beast! Very solid and easy to adjust. No drooping after you lock it down. It stays put. Just 3 knobs to fiddle with: lock, pan and a friction adjustment that varies how much resistance is on the hall. This ball head replaces an older FLH head in the same weight class. The Gitzo beats it hands down.

Not unless you are instructed by the manufacturer, as it may void your warranty if you use the wrong lubricant. If your ball head doesn't feel as smooth as it was Day 1, please reach out to Gitzo for instructions.

While both ball heads are excellent, the Gitzo GIGH4383LR would offer a heavier load capacity and a safety pin on the quick release clamp to prevent the plate from sliding out accidently.

On there first image shown, what is the purpose of the steel (?) pin that seems to be protruding from the center of the arca swiss receiver? Is this a safety pin to prevent plates from sliding out? so long as your place has a hollow area underneath ??

Can this take a Wimberley P10 or P20 with safety screws installed on both end of the plates?

The Gitzo GIGH4383LR Series 4 Center Ball Head with Arca-Type Lever Release QR Receiver will mount the Wimberley P10 Quick Release Plate and the Wimberley P20 Quick Release Plate as they are all Arca-type. However this may not work with the safety screws on those plates.
