Opticron 14x30 Imagic Image-Stabilized Binoculars
Key Features
  • Wide ±3° Stabilization
  • Compact BAK4 Roof Prism Design
  • Anti-Reflection Fully Multicoated
  • IPX4-Rated, Water Resistant
The Opticron 14x30 Imagic Image-Stabilized Binoculars let you enjoy high-power views of the world around you without having to use a tripod. Non-stabilized 14x30 binoculars would be difficult to use without a support system due to their high power, relatively small exit pupil, and the appearance of visible hand shake that binoculars 10x and over tend to suffer from. With image stabilization (IS) of ±3°, you'll see the details of far-off subjects without the hand shake that typically spoils the view—even when you're glassing from a moving boat or vehicle. A simple and intuitive toggle switch puts the IS control at your fingertip.

Opticron Imagic IS 14x30 Reviews

Not perfect but still fun!

I bought these (14x30) for birding to have a lighter option than my Canon IS 10x42s (which I absolutely love), plus I was intrigued by the idea of 14x. It took me a while to decide if I liked these or not. (tl;dr: I do.) Firstly, the area of perfect focus is a small spot right in the center of view. The image curves significantly out from that spot toward the edges.  Secondly, the plane of view that is in focus is quite thin, so it takes being very precise with the wheel to get the image to a satisfying focus. Finally, the actual ergonomics are weird: the focus wheel is so far forward that I have to use my ring finger to adjust it (which is hard), the on-switch for the image-stabilizing function sits right under the bill of my ball cap when I’m looking through the binoculars so that I can’t get my finger on the switch without displacing my cap (I fixed this by always  turning the switch on as I’m bringing the binoculars up), and the binoculars are so top heavy that they tend to try to fall over backwards on the harness if they hang anywhere other than flush against my body (which is annoying). Opticron provides a stabilizing strap for use with the included neck strap, but who uses a neck strap? Having figured all that out though, it really is quite fun to achieve a steady 14x view with binoculars, and the stability function works perfectly. They seem best suited for looking at a target that you have already seen with the naked eye, rather than scanning an area for bird activity, given the particularly small field of view that comes with this magnification.  I decided that the novelty of such high magnification in such light binoculars is worth keeping even though they won’t replace my Canons as my “daily” binocular. They aren’t perfect, but they are fun!
