I was hoping for a wider field of view. After mounting on the wall the camera doesn't tilt up enough to watch the entire room.

Hi! Mounting is not required. You can simply set it on a table, or any other flat surface that has enough room for the base of the camera.

Hi! No, a monthly fee is not required - however it is optional via the Kasa Care cloud storage plans. If you would prefer to simply use local storage (via a Micro SD Card), then no subscription is needed.

I just want to record JUST when there is motion. How do I configure camera to do that?

Yes, the TP-Link EC70 Kasa Spot 1080p Pan & Tilt Indoor Wi-Fi Security Camera with Night Vision can record motion only and when using the TAPO app; there are settings for motion detection and masking. Look for “Record on Motion Only” instead of 24/7 recording. Also, make sure you have a microSD card to save your recordings. As long as the hotspot supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, the TP-Link EC70 Kasa Spot 1080p Pan & Tilt Indoor Wi-Fi Security Camera with Night Vision would be able to connect to the internet and work.
