Tiffen 62WIDCP overview

  • 1Description

Tiffen 62mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.

If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.

Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.

This filter uses a Wide Angle (Low Profile) mount. In order to help eliminate vignetting (darkening of the corners), it does not have a front thread.

Note: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
Can dramatically enhance a blue sky and make the clouds more prominent
Used best at right angle to the sun
Effective with cameras that use beam splitters in the path of the TTL light meter and with AF cameras

62mm Circular Polarizing Wide Angle (Low Profile Design) Filter is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased this Tiffen for my wife Over the years I have purchased several Tiffen filters so when it came time to buy a polarizing filter for my wife's new Lumix 1000 camera I chose one I was familiar and happy with. Some of the filters I purchased early on were the box store variety and I found myself frustrated by threads jamming and hard-to-turn polarizer rings. The Tiffen filters thread smoothly onto the lens (saving the lens threads from damage) and the polarizing rings move smoothly for quick adjustments. As a bridge camera the 1000 has a large zoom range and I purchased the wide angle filter (narrower edges) to accommodate the ranges without interference from the filter edges. A crazy tip I learned from fishing: Before you screw the filter onto the lens, rub your nose (natural oil from the skin) and carefully run your finger along the threads of the filter. Your filter will assemble easily and can be removed even if some moisture is present.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Its quality Bought this with a new 18-250mm Lens and screwed it on. Works great, and is nice and definitely low profile. But then I went to put my Sony lens cap on only to find out it can't fit on the filter like all my other ones do to the rotating ring. So had to order another filter that will allow me to use my Lens cap.. disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK, But ... This polarizer is nicely made, glass is clear, and it's thin. But ... no threads on the front, so I can't put a lens cap on. My wide angle UV protector is just as thin and has front threads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy from this company again I travel a lot to the caribbean and the polarizer filter works great for all the ocean and water shots. The thin polarizer reduces the vignetting greatly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always buy a Tiffen. At first i bought the 62mm thin profile style only to find out it didn't allow me to use my camera lens on my Sony. Bought this one to replace it and everything works great. Always buy one of these for any new lens I buy. Its really become a standard necessity.
