For honesty and fairness, the following update : After experimenting with the X Drop Pro Stand and backdrop I got the thing to work. The problem was that the Pro version stand is listed as usable for both 5X7 and larger Westcott backdrops. It is ….BUT …..DO NOT follow Westcott instructions on setting it up. Their instructions are ONLY for the larger backdrops. Follow their instructions explicitly and you’ll tear or break something if using the 5X7 drop and X Drop Pro stand. I’ve always followed manufacturers instructions on everything I purchase. This time is was a big mistake. Westcott should update their instructions that come with the X Drop and also their videos. I still stand by my opinion that Westcott quality has gone down somewhat. I now will update my review to 3 stars.

The thing looks decent BUT it’s cheap and way overpriced. One of the grommets tore loose on the first use. Why ? Because the X drop stand is also cheap - overpriced and POORLY designed. The ONLY way this thing can be used is with clamps. I purchased the backdrop and stand for the supposed Westcott quality and ease of use. It failed on both. DONT waste your $$
