Canon TC-80N3 Reviews

Reliable, solid build quality

I've gone through more no-name intervalometers than I care to recount but the Canon TC-80N3 is a solid and reliable choice for Canon DSLRs. It's easy to use in the field once you learn what and where to access all its functions. The only two design changes I would make are a larger Start/Stop button and an on/off switch. The latter request isn't a big deal, as this device draws so little current, it will literally stay charged several seconds after you remove the coin cell battery. Nevertheless, I wish I could simply switch the unit off rather than taking the battery out of its compartment, but leaving it in is an option, as the battery won't burn out for years!

When you are in the field and need to take a long shot, that last thing you want to worry about is the WiFi connection to your phone. This timer remote was purchased for those moments. It works perfectly, every time. Now, the only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that the intervalometer limit is 99 shots. WHY CANON? If I want to take a timelapse, I will rarely take less than 120 shots. For one digit, this would be perfect for extra long-single shots and timelapse too.

I use this with a 1DX MKii. It allows extra options for shutter release or extra shutter operations. The instructions were slightly vague but after using the device for a couple hours the instructions make sense once you understand the logic. After using this for a day you don't need the book any more as operation is obvious. One nitpick is there is no on/off switch. Once you install the battery the device stays on. I contacted Canon tech support about this and they said the power draw is minimum from the lcd display. I purchased an extra battery ($2) anyway so I'll see how long battery life is. Unit appears well made and has the features I was looking for.

Very similar in build quality to Nikon's version, but slightly better functionality. I purchased this to use with my Canon R5. Even though the R5 has a built-in intervalometer, I use this when the camera is very low to the ground for long exposure images and in very cold/icy climates, so I don't have to bend down in the snow all the time.

Good tool for timed shots

It took quite awhile to receive this as it was out of stock for quite a while. When I did receive it I was able to get it running quickly. The Canon manual was a bit confusing so I did some Internet searches for tutorials. After a little practice I was able to develop a process for photographing the meteor showers later this month. I set up exposure time (25 seconds), interval 2 seconds between shots and number of exposures (30). I started the sequence and watched my camera do exactly as I had programmed. I'm looking forward to actually shooting the Perseid's on August 11-12.

I want to shoot a Lunar eclipse with multiple shots on the SAMEimage. Will this work using the TC-80N3 or do I need to stitchmultiple images together?
Asked by: Anonymous
It sounds like you are referring to a multiple exposure shot and that really does not work with time lapse and many cameras do not have that function. You are correct and will need to blend the images together.

We're afraid not. This is for cameras with a 3 Pin Connection, the T7i offers a Sub Mini Connection. The Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with Sub Mini Connection is a great choice for the T7i, B&H # VERCC12. https://bhpho.to/2t9HqZb
