Vello RC-C2II overview

  • 1Description

The ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with 3-Pin Connection from Vello is a remote shutter release that provides photographers with enhanced levels of exposure control. Featuring specialized functionality such as continuous shooting, self-timer, long time exposures, and interval shooting, the ShutterBoss II is a huge asset to keep in your camera bag. This particular ShutterBoss is compatible with cameras that have a 3-pin connection, for example: Canon EOS 5D, 6D, 7D, and 1D series DSLRS.

With the ShutterBoss you can set timer delays, exposure times and intervals up to 99 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds in one-second increments. You can also select from 1 to 399 continuous shots or set the device to take an unlimited number of photos. Since you can set exposures without touching the camera you will capture clear, blur-free images. This remote has a 4-line backlit LCD status display for easy viewing of timer and exposure settings. The backlight can be locked to remain on when shooting in low light conditions.

The ShutterBoss is great for time lapse series of blooming flowers, sunsets or the night sky. It can also function without batteries as a simple manual remote shutter release. Simply establish the camera's settings and push the remote's shutter button halfway to focus and fully to shoot. In bulb mode, slide the shutter release button forward to lock and the shutter will stay open until you release it.

The ShutterBoss II has added two features that will offer easier control over the remote's settings. First is a Power Off option which gives you the ability to power down the remote to conserve battery life and also a Reset option allows the ShutterBoss' settings to be completely reset to default settings with just the hold of two buttons. A default reset is a time-saver to avoid changing each setting individually.

Whether it's for simple shutter release, extended self-timer options, continuous shooting, long exposures, or time-lapse shooting, the ShutterBoss II Remote puts creative camera control in the palm of your hand.

Audible Beep
The ShutterBoss will give you an audible beep for the last three seconds of a countdown delay or interval. It will also beep to confirm your settings. The beep can be turned off if necessary.
Power Off and Reset Options

    Vello RC-C2II reviews

ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with 3-Pin Connection is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 242.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Completely stopped working. This is just my experience and I'm only one person but, boy was this a disappointment! I used it exclusively for shooting timelapse photography and for the first two months it worked as designed. After about two months, using it exactly as I always had, the shutter randomly wouldn't trigger every couple of intervals, ruining the timelapse shots. And then on my way to shoot at Niagra falls the Shutterboss just failed completely. I checked the user manual, forums, pressed the reset button, swapped the batteries. It just doesn't work. Never got it wet or dirty or dropped it. It just doesn't work. Still can't figure it out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor quality I'm not typically one to write reviews, but after my 2nd Vello Shutterboss II died on me I really felt like I had no choice. I used the first one I had for about 8 months and suddenly it just wasn't responding to my camera (possibly due to some issue with the connection port to the camera). I figured it was a fluke so I bought another one -- not wanting to splurge for the Canon Remote Shutter -- and this one only lasted about 3 months. The shutter release button kept getting harder and harder to activate before just not responding anymore. I would not recommend this product to anyone because of its lack of build quality and unreliability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Re-writing my original review After having for about a year and finally getting to use about 6 times I had a problem, being it had been so long the warranty was up, so after leaving my original review B&H contacted me to ask if they could give my contact info to Vello, so they could contact me about my problem and I agreed to let them. So vello contacts me and schedules a good time to call me about my problem and, after a few minutes they agreed to send me a new release ( it works perfectly). To sum it up I would buy this again and give a big thumbs up to B&H and vello for both going above and beyond to make a customer happy, you both have earned a customer for life..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing and great! I cannot....CANNOT...believe that this is so cheap. It performs beautifully and the interface is so easy you don't need to even reference the manual (well...maybe a little, but, you know). It's also super light, so you can easily let it hang from the camera body or just use a piece of gaff tape to adhere it to your c-stand. In any event, if you're looking for an intervalometer with a super easy interface, great performance, and an incredibly affordable price, this is absolutely perfect. The company behind this product really know what they're doing. Also, it includes the batteries! The sweet cherry on top.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON'T BUY IT... NOT TRUSTWORTHY. - 5 STARS DON'T BUY IT! I've had it for less then a year ago 08/19/2014. I've only used it twice once to test it and I took the batteries out. Then I used it last night 06/07/15 on a shoot. I set it and took about 10 shots with it. Then it stopped working correctly. The setting were correct 3 sec intv 3 frames. It started shooting one frame the intv counted out. Then it wouldn't shoot at all not even if I pushed the shutter button on the remote. This has sat in my camera bag since I bought it. Now I hope I can get a refund via B&H. I am very unhappy and I am lucky it was not a shoot where I left the camera unattented to do a timelaps. DON'T BUY IT!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me... I'll echo several of the negative reviews of this product. I've bought not one, but two of the Vello remote switches and been let down by both. Each worked fine for several months, and then suddenly, for no discernible reason, each became sporadic, only occasionally triggering the shutter as intended. Fortunate, in each case, I was shooting locally and had already gotten the shots I wanted. But had I been traveling or the timing less forgiving, the failure of this product would have ruined my shoot. While I was drawn to the compelling price of the Vello product, I've learned my lesson twice over and will now be purchasing the cannon shutter release.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Wanted to start doing some timelapse photography and shopped B&H for products that would work with my Canon 6D. I normally stick with only Canon accessories for my cameras but the Canon Timer seemed a bit pricey so I took a chance and tried the Shutterboss. It works great, no regrets on my decision. It's got every feature I need to do timelapse work. The only thing of note is that it doesn't snap/pop into the Canon body like Canon's own connectors do. I have a Canon remote trigger and you get a reassuring snap when you connect it to the camera. The Shutterboss connector does not do this, it's kind of a muddied feel when you connect it to the camera.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I'll Stick to Canon This would be a very nice remote timer for the Canon line if it had a more secure connection to camera. I'm on my second switch. I thought my original one had a defect because the 3-pin connecting cord kept popping out of the camera. Well, my second one is doing the same thing, even though I push it in completely. Sometimes, it pops out during the exposure - very upsetting and unacceptable. Otherwise, it performs flawlessly and at a great price - 1/5 that of the Canon brand. Alas, no matter how good it functions, if the connection is not secure I cannot use it. I'll stick with Canon's version.
