The 105 Macro is a lens I knew I wanted. I had two in the past and used them a lot. Since I recently went mirrorless and sold all my F mount lenses, it was time to get a new lens with the Z mount. It has not disappointed! Focus speed is very good and the captures as sharp. THe quality of the lens is top notch. It is a fairly heavy lens even in this mount but I have found that it is not a problem for my shooting style.

The Nikon NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S Macro Lens (Nikon Z) is fully compatible with the Nikon Zf Mirrorless Camera. If you need more resolution, better grip and ergonomics, the Nikon Z8 or Z9 Mirrorless Cameras are better options.

While it is a telephoto lens, it may it offer enough reach. A Nikon NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S Lens with UV Filter Kit, plus the Nikon Z Teleconverter TC-1.4x would offer more reach.

All lenses of all types do this. The focal ratio F of a lens is quoted for a subject distance of infinity. As the subject moves closer, the magnification M increases. The effective focal ratio Feff is related to the magnification by Feff = F * (1+M). For non macro lenses, you dont normally notice this effect because the closest focus is typically around M = 0.12.
