Kirk PZ-17 Overview

The PZ-17 Universal Camera Plate with QD Port for Select Canon, FUJIFILM, Nikon, and Sony Cameras from Kirk Enterprises is designed for select camera bodies, plus bodies that do not have a camera specific custom plate. This Arca-type compatible quick release plate has a 90° anti-twist lip, which prevents the camera body from rotating out of position while mounted.

The plate maintains complete access to the camera battery door and does not obstruct the LCD monitor movement. The PZ-17 is crafted of 6061-T6 aluminum and features a black anodized finish, which makes it resistant to scuffs and scratches.

An integrated QD Quick Disconnect System port and a strap loop are machined into the plate for an accessory hand or shoulder strap. Two optional safety stop screws, which prevent the camera from falling out in case the clamp is partially open, can be added to the bottom the plate. The rear of the plate has been scored with a sensor centering line for precise camera sensor alignment.

    I needed a plate with a Quick Release socket to fit on the bottom of my Sony A7RV battery grip. I did not want a bulky L plate as the camera with the grip and a lens is already bulky enough. This was the best solution I could find. The plate works well, is well made and nicely finished.

    Not compatible with Sony Grip VG-C4EM

    This claims compatibility with the Sony Alpha 1, which without the grip it works fine. But with the VG-C4EM grip this plate doesn't really work. I also prefer arca rails to run perpendicular to the camera body (parallel with the lens) because that's the direction the plates on my lenses run. This isn't possible with this plate because of the lip. However I found there is a universal lens plate with QD socket KLP-260 that does work almost perfectly with the VG-C4EM grip. It has a little lip that you can put towards the front or back to help keep it from rotating. I put that towards the front so the QD socket is closer to the back where I prefer it. I would recommend going that route if you use the VG-C4EM grip on a Sony camera. But this plate works fine if you don't have the grip and don't mind the arca rail running parallel to the camera body.

    Unfortunately, the Kirk PZ-17 Universal Camera Plate with QD Port would not fit a full body camera like a Canon EOS R3 Mirrorless Camera.     No, the Kirk PZ-17 Universal Camera Plate with QD Port for Select Canon, FUJIFILM, Nikon, and Sony Cameras is not designed for use on the Kirk Universal L-Bracket (Small). You may use either the universal camera plate or the universal L-bracket on your camera, but you cannot use both simultaneously.
