Mitakon Zhongyi 35mm T1 Cine S35 Reviews
For The Price... Okay.
I really shouldn't be too hard on a cine style prime at a $399 price point. I tested this lens on my BMPCC4K and I liked the images it produces. What concerns me is how will this lens hold up over time? The T stop aperture ring makes an audible squeak when rotated (loud enough to get noticed) and at a certain rotation point there's a small hitch as if it's catching on something. I own the four lens set (17, 25, 35, 50) and mechanical characteristics between the four are not consistent. Some lenses have a stiff rotational movement, some have a slight scraping sound and feel, some turn quite easily. If these lenses hold up over time than I will say this is a good deal for the price. If they start coming apart or lose optical quality after moderate use, well, I suppose I'll never buy another. We shall see for $399.
