Canon RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM Overview

Ultra-wide and stabilized, the Canon RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM is a uniquely versatile zoom characterize by its broad range, constant f/4 maximum aperture, and advanced optical design. Gaining a bit on the wide end, this zoom offers a broader field of view to suit landscape, nature, and architectural applications, and its modest maximum aperture also contributes to a sleek, highly portable design for walkaround shooting.

In terms of optics, the lens is befitting of its L-series designation and features three aspherical elements and three UD elements that produce a highly corrected image with high sharpness and accurate color rendering. A trio of unique coatings have also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting throughout the zoom rang. The L-series designation is also indicative of a robust physical design, and this 14-35mm is weather-sealed and features a fluorine coating on the exposed elements for further protection against trying weather conditions.

Unique among ultra-wides, this lens is also distinguished by its Optical Image Stabilizer that compensates for up to 5.5 stops of camera shake, or up to 7 stops when paired with cameras featuring IBIS. Additionally, there is also an apt Nano USM that yields fast and quiet autofocus performance and there is a minimum focusing distance of just 7.9" throughout the entire zoom range for creative wide-angle close-up shooting.

Wide-angle zoom lens is designed for use with full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras.
Constant f/4 maximum aperture maintains consistent illumination throughout the zoom range.
An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by 5.5 stops to better enable working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
Up to 7 stops of correction when used on EOS R-series cameras with In-Body Image Stabilization.
Nano USM system utilizes both a ring type USM and an STM mechanism to realize quick and accurate focusing that is also smooth and nearly silent to suit both photography and video applications. This focusing system also affords full-time manual focus control when working in the one-shot AF mode.
Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.
As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens has a weather-resistant design that protects against dust and moisture to enable its use in inclement conditions.

Excellent Wid Angle Zoom

I have had wide angle zooms from other manufacturers that causes linear distortion. This one does not. It has all the qualities I need from a wide angl zoom lens. The build quality is excellent.

I bought this to replace the 16-35mm. This has a wider angle, is light and compact. Image quality is outstanding which would be expected from an L lens.

Light, sharp, great zoom range!

The lens is incredibly balanced to handle with the R6. Very sharp and excellent color reproduction. Very useful zoom range for ultra wide to wide shots.

Excellent sharpness for a wide zoom, especially in a compact and light package. Do expect the usual zoom lens drop off in sharpness in the corners at wide angles. I look forward to RF wide angle F4 primes to become available for better sharpness across the frame.

Great Lens

I have used the canon 17-40 mm zoom lens for years. Last year I bought the canon R5 and have been using the 17-40 with the adapter and it's been fine. Recently I decided to purchase a dedicated RF Lens. I read the reviews on this lens and they were mixed, but I have to say this is a fabulous Lens! I have no issues with this lens and I absolutely love it. I love the extra wide view that it gives just those three extra millimeters is amazing. I have no issues processing the images in Lightroom. For whatever reason the exact correct lens doesn't pop up in the correction box one of the lenses on that list works every time. I will also say when you shoot raw that it pops up in the dialogue box every time. If you shoot JPEG's for some reason it doesn't show up exactly correct, but it doesn't matter the 10-22 or 15 mm will work. And of course if needed you can always adjust manually. But about the lens I absolutely love it. I love that it's a little smaller and lighter and dedicated to my R5 and I'm not fooling around with the adapter ring. For me it is really the perfect lens for doing interior architectural shots.

This lens pretty much lives on my R6

One thing they don't mention in the summary is that this lens can generate some nice sunstars.

If you mean Canon RF mount lens to Canon EF/EF-S camera, there is not an adapter made to do that. The flange distance is too small.

Can the barrel distortion at 14mmm be corrected in the EOS R5 camera?
Asked by: Stanley
Yes in fact shooting JPEC the camera will force distortion correction to fix the massive amounts of distortion with the resulting loss of sharpness. If you want a more optically corrected lens the RF 15-35 f/2.8L is the one.

I am looking to buy Kase magnetic filters for use with this lens. Most reviews seem to indicate that a slim 77mm screw-in filter will not vignette once barrel distortion is corrected. Can anyone offer any guidance as to which Kase filter size I should be looking at for 2 filter stack?
Asked by: Norman
This is correct the low profile filters is the only way to go to avoid all vignette issues. Please review the following Kase Master III Kit (77mm) BH #KA1121050006 • MFR #1121050006 https://bhpho.to/3pGVQz8
