Can Nisi 77mm circular ND filters be used with this lens? Or will circular filters cause vignetting and Should I go with a square filter system?
Yes in general all 77mm non variable ND will fit on the RF14-35mm lens.
Note, that at 14mm most will produce a little vignette.

Canon has not said specifically why the RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM Lens does not support in camera multiple exposures. We feel based on other lenses that do not support in camera ME is due to required distortion correction that lenses like the 14-35mm use, Canon disables this feature.

Yes in fact shooting JPEC the camera will force distortion correction to fix the massive amounts of distortion with the resulting loss of sharpness. If you want a more optically corrected lens the RF 15-35 f/2.8L is the one.
