    Westcott Gel Pack Reviews

READ THE REVIEWS... super cheap product

Read the reviews and other warnings. I didn't and wish I would have. I should have just bought sheets of quality gels and cut them down myself. The quality of the gels is horrible as they are scratched, chipped and even cut from the regular sheets and not even full coverage on some. They are extremely flimsy and roll up. Hoping to return them. Read the reviews!

    Offensively over-priced!

It's incredibly rare that I ever feel inspired to write a negative review, for whatever that's worth. I apologize for the forthcoming rant, but I couldn't help myself. I think the optical spot product is brilliant and I am perfectly willing to pay the high price for their laser cut steel gobos. I'm not a cheapskate at all... I'm always willing to pay top dollar for a great product. When I ordered this set of color gels, I thought the price was high but I expected excellence... maybe some kind of rigid frame or very thick material. Not at all. What you get is a nicely printed cardboard box filled with cellophane, bubble wrap, and a very cheap plastic clamshell case containing a little baggy of 10 circular slivers of color gel... 1 each of 10 colors. No reference sheet or even white tissue separators. These circles are 2.5 diameter and very thin. For about the same price, you can buy a Roscolux Swatchbook (large) containing 3 by 6 sheets of at least 60+ colors including all the color correction gels and these creative colors plus many many more. From each sheet you can cut multiple circles and rectangles for all your small flashes. One could maybe argue that this set includes unique colors created by Lindsay Adler, but I'm pretty certain all these colors are part of the Roscolux library... and very similar color gel packs for competitor products (Godox) are about 40% cheaper for 3 times as many gels. 25 bucks for these 10 colors... plus another 25 bucks if you want the 10 color correction gels...?? Are you kidding? This product is offensively overpriced for what you get. You're getting MAYBE $2 worth of gels and I'd be shocked if the packaging doesn't cost more to produce than the product contained inside. What you're really paying for is branding, packaging, marketing, and the convenience of not having to cut your own circles with a pair of scissors. I despise this kind of shameless profit grab from an otherwise reputable brand. I'd rather pay my 10 year old niece to cut circles for me.
