Sony UBP-X700E Overview

The UBP-X700E features two HDMI outputs and a digital coaxial output for versatile connectivity options; one HDMI output exclusively transmits audio for connection to a non-ARC-compatible sound system, or to separate your audio and video feeds. This Blu-ray player has Wi-Fi and an Ethernet port built-in to allow you to stream multimedia content from your home network. The USB port also provides for the playback of your digitally stored media.

Multi-Region Compatibility

This Blu-ray player is an original Sony player that has been expertly modified by a third-party vendor to make it region-free and able to play on NTSC and PAL televisions. Please see the included documentation for instructions on how to change regions to match your media.

Bitter Disappointment!

I won't talk about the condition the player came in and the lack of update as that is to so with the seller but there is plenty more amiss. The player only plays half of my movie collection because of codec incompatibilities. My 20 year old Sony VAIO laptop has no such problems. Also, many audio abd photo files don't play because of a lack of compatibility with the codecs. Last night I couldn't view png files which are uncompressed images. The player doesn't recognise my 8TB Samsung drive - why not? Again, my 20 year old Sony VAIO laptop has no such problems. And since my movie collection is 4TB there is no point putting only half on my compatible 2TB drive. The menu system is dismal, that same drab menu you see on the PS3 (I don't bother with consoles anymore). The only app available is youtube. It feels like an experience from a bygone era. To earn its one star I would say upscaling is decent and hopefully it will play my disc collection (Blu Ray and DVD) without issue - but I would not be surprised after all the disappointments if it doesn't. Should have just installed Jellyfin on my editing laptop and bought a disc ripper instead!

Works as advertised: plays all regions of dvds, blurays and 4k blurays with minimal fuss. Haven't tried blu-ray region C though. I don't use the internet features but has familiar Roku interface. Also plays a variety of media via usb port. This cd replace all your other disk-based media and accommodates more. Hope it lasts but seems to have typical SONY high build quality. I also own the similar SONY multi-region blu-ray player and it has held up well under regular use.

Why BH advertise this item as a 120-240 V power ...

Why BH advertise this item as a 120-240 V power supply when Sony provides 2 times ( at original buy and then at reorder ) only the 110 V power supply ?

B&H is a North American retailer, so the Sony UBP-X700E comes with a North American plug. It does support 110 to 220 VAC, 50 / 60 Hz, so you can use an adapter with it, like B&H # WATAGUSAE for example, to be able to use it in a country with 220V.

Can you update the firmware without affecting the multi-region feature on this player?

The Sony UBP-X700E HDR 4K UHD Network Multi-Region Blu-ray Disc Player (B&H # SOUBPX700E) is physically modified by a third party approved by the manufacturer for multi-region functionality. It is not recommended to update the firmware of this player unless it would be otherwise necessary for use, as this can potentially disable the multi-region capabilities.
