SmallRig Forevala S20 Overview

Add a shotgun mic as well as an additional lav mic to your mobile production with the Forevala S20 On-Camera Shotgun/Lavalier Microphone from SmallRig. This ultracompact camera-mount shotgun microphone offers crisp sound quality and wind noise reduction without adding much weight to your rig. Since it runs on plug-in power, the mic system is a simple and reliable microphone setup for mobile journalists, vloggers, and run-and-gun shooters.

This ultracompact and ultralightweight shotgun microphone features a detachable shockmount that mounts directly to your DSLR, mirrorless, or video camera and reduces noise from vibrations and camera handling. The shotgun also includes a detachable lavalier mic with a 6.6' cable that plugs into the 3.5mm input on the side of the mic, allowing you to capture an additional channel of audio and output a single stereo signal to your camera or smartphone from two different locations. The supplied furry windshield for the shotgun minimizes wind noise, making it well suited for outdoor shoots, and both the shotgun and lavalier include a foam windscreen. The detachable coiled 3.5mm TRS cable ensures easy hookup to your camera.

SmallRig Forevala S20 Reviews

Great Mic

Definitely an upgrade from my $20 Walmart microphone, this one attracts less noise/ grain in audio but still somewhat does, but it may be just because of my camera since I need an upgrade. Other than that it’s pretty great and I wish my camera would actually read the microphone volume because it has a stereo and surround sound but I still can’t figure out which one is best because 1 of them either doesn’t record any audio or the other one is too silent. It might be because of the fur cover but I will try and do it with the other cover that it comes with.

Amazing

The lavalier microphone included with the SmallRig Forevala S20 On-Camera Shotgun/Lavalier Microphone has a 3.5mm TRRS connector. The input and output connectors on the S20 Shotgun Mic are both 3.5mm TRS.

The shotgun mic is just mono, correct? The "stereo" simply means you get L/R channel by plugging in the lav?
Asked by: Kenton
The SmallRig Forevala S20 On-Camera Shotgun/Lavalier Microphone only contains a single capsule, but the stereo output mode can be used when an external lavalier is plugged into the microphone's 3.5mm input so as to deliver both audio tracks separately to the recording device.

Yes, you can use an Apple to USB-C headphone jack adapter (BH #APMW2Q3AMA) with the SmallRig Forevala S20 On-Camera Shotgun/Lavalier Microphone, to be able to connect it to an iPhone with USB-C connector. For connection to an Apple device with Lightning, you can use the Saramonic SR-C2002 adapter (BH #SASRC2002).

While the manufacturer has not provided detailed specifications for the SmallRig Forevala S20 On-Camera Shotgun/Lavalier Microphone, I believe the maximum SPL rating is approximately 120 dB SPL, which is the maximum SPL rating for other similar SmallRig mini shotgun microphones.
