Built using the Alder Lake architecture with the Intel 7 process, this 12th generation 2.5 GHz desktop processor's six Performance cores support up to 12 threads and provide the speed for demanding applications and games. Additionally, this processor has a 4.4 GHz Boost 2.0 frequency with 18MB of cache for fast and reliable performance. The Core i5-12400F also includes support for up to PCI Express 5.0 and dual-channel DDR5 memory at 4800 MHz to help run and multitask a variety of demanding applications.

The Core i5-12400F does not include integrated graphics, meaning that users will need to purchase a separate dedicated graphics card. An Intel Laminar RM1 thermal solution is included. The processor is compatible with Intel LGA 1700 socket motherboards and is backed by a 3-year warranty.

Only by about 3%-4%, but still 6 cores are doing better than 8. Runs reasonably cool and no problems with games or professional apps like Photoshop or Lightroom. For most people wanting a fast enough computer without a big investment this is the sweet spot.

some can't even handle 3200 DDR4 RAM in gear 1..

On the 12400f SA volt is locked at 0.89-0.98v. This means if you are unlucky and get a 12400F locked to 0,89V you won't even be able to run your XMP profile of 3200 of your ram in gear 1. Unknowingly to you (or at least most users) your motherboard will switch to the slower gear 2 which results in a massive performace loss of your memory latency. (instead of 60ish nanoseconds stuff will take 75ish nanoseconds - that's 25% worse) The reason for this is that the IMC (Memory Controller) of this CPU doesn't get enough voltage as Intel for some reason thought that's a great idea to lock this Voltage to previously stated values. If you release a CPU in 2022 that doesn't guarantee to run DDR4 RAM at 3200 in Gear 1 then you are doing something very very wrong. I found this information in no review so I am highly disappointed to find out myself.
