When we tested this mic back in 2015, we felt that it exhibited too much popping -- too sensitive to wind/plosives. We didn't want to use a foam windscreen, which would have negated much of its otherwise beautiful sound. Has this been corrected at all?
Thank you, John, for your comments. Armed with them, I corresponded with the Sennheiser Customer Support Team. According to their bench technician, "there have not been any changes to the filter or basket on the E 965". It would seem that the mic we tested in 2015 is pretty much identical to what would be available today. I guess I should have asked them directly, rather than plugging up a product comments section like this one -- sorry.
We REALLY liked the sound of this mic back in 2015. It's clear, natural, unhyped, and beautiful, BUT I felt like I couldn't use the mic because of plosives & popping. If I must place a foam pop filter over the end of the mic for everyday stage use, then that will change the sound and it seems a disqualifier.
Is there anyone reading this who uses the mic every day and who does not have an issue with popping? I'd LOVE to find a handheld condenser vocal mic which is not processed sounding like the Shure offerings.
