Nikon MC-N10 Reviews

Control of camera without touching it

Fantastic addition to the ability to use many of the controls over a Nikon Z series camera while not directly touching the camera itself! I usually mount it to the bar handle on my fluid head and can control focus as well as zooming functions without having to awkwardly use the buttons on the camera itself, which can result in shaking and/or jerky movement while filming. This can also be used for still photography purposes, particularly in sports or wildlife tracking situations to great effect.

Great for video capture but needs improvements

This is a handy remote grip if you are doing video capture on a gimbal or mounted on a tripod. A USB-C cable is required for use. Depending on location of the camera to MC-N10, the supplied cable may be a little short. The price is quite significant for what appears to be a limited use item. Using it will take a little to get accustomed to; the F1 and F2 buttons are rather small and would be better if they were the same size and placement as they are on the Z camera bodies. This goes for the exposure compensation button as well; the placement is not the same as the camera bodies. You'll have to adjust your muscle memory to use the remote grip. If you don't already have the proper connector or adapter, you'll need to buy one to use the rosette connection of the remote grip. All in all, I need it, so I'll use it to reduce and eliminate the need to touch the camera bodies while recording video or getting a gimbal shot set up. I also hope an updated version will be made that aligns better to the camera bodies so there won't be a need to hunt for buttons or look away while you have a shot composed. Giving it 3 stars for the price and button location/size.

Yes, it will work with the digital zoom on the z9 (and I assume z8) if you assign the front two custom buttons to it.

What is the best way to attach the MC-N10 to a Manfrotto 608 fluid head?
Asked by: John
The best way to attach the Nikon MC-N10 Remote Grip to a Manfrotto 608 fluid head is to remove the original Manfrotto pan bar and replace it with an ARRI rosette extension or bracket. Then attach the Nikon MC-N10 Remote Grip's rosette with the new ARRI rosette and attach them. Finally, connect the USB cable to your camera (camera must be off before doing this).

Yes, you can use the 5" Ninja V+ monitor in conjunction with the Nikon MC-N10 Remote Grip as they use different input/output ports. The remote grip uses USB-C while the ninja uses HDMI.

Will the MC-N10 will be compatible with the Nikon Zr ?
Asked by: Guillaume
Yes, it connects and functions. However, I would say it’s not entirely optimized for use with a ZR in the current firmware version. From a hardware perspective; there is no zoom rocker, and the custom buttons mirror the buttons on camera. (I.e., they aren’t additional buttons that can be programmed separately like an FZ6/FX9 grip.) Also, the power switch on the grip (that looks like a traditional Nikon power switch) seems to only power the grip and does not control camera power. Another quirk is that the 5D pads don’t rotate with the camera interface – if you’re using the camera in portrait (which is arguably one of the best use cases for justifying the extra bulk of this grip), the 5D pad is still navigating in landscape. Similar to the dials on the ZR body, you can’t independently program the dials on the grip – you can only swap shutter/aperture. I’ve found it easy to accidentally bump the shutter speed/angle, which is not ideal for video. Finally; the OEM USB cable that comes with the grip is oddly long on the connector ends. I’d recommend an L-connector to reduce the risk of damaging the ports on both the grip and the ZR.
