Sennheiser HD 650 Stereo Reference Headphones

The HD 650 from Sennheiser are reference-class stereo headphones designed to deliver a true audiophile experience with an open, natural sound. Specially developed acoustic silk was used to provide uniform attenuation over the entire area of each ear-cup. The lightweight aluminum voice coils ensure a remarkable transient response, while the full-range drivers offer a frequency response of 10 Hz to 39.5 kHz. Great care was taken to ensure the headphones are comfortable with their elliptical design, which naturally adapts to the shape of the ear.

The HD 650 utilizes a 9.8' detachable cable made from a highly conductive OFC copper with low handling noise and low structure-borne sound sensitivity. The headphones can be used with high-output mobile devices and excel with high-quality stationary hi-fi components such as SACD, DVD-A, and CD players. The HD 650 ships with the detachable cable and a 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter.

  • Top-of-the-range open, dynamic hi-fi stereo headphones
  • Systems with narrow tolerances (±1 dB), hand-picked in pairs
  • High-quality titanium / silver finish
  • Specially developed acoustic silk for precise, uniform attenuation over the entire area
  • Specially modulated connecting cable (detachable) made from highly conductive OFC copper, with very-low handling noise
  • Extremely lightweight aluminum voice coils ensure excellent transient response
  • Comfortable to wear due to elliptical design adapted to the shape of the ears
  • Can be directly connected to stationary hi-fi components of the highest quality, in particular SACD, DVD-A, and CD players

Grace Design m900 Compact, Portable Headphone Amp, DAC, and Preamp

The Grace Design m900 is a compact, portable headphone amplifier, DAC, and preamp, well suited for audio professionals, music enthusiasts, or anyone looking for transparent playback from USB, S/PDIF, or TOSLINK sources. For small DAW setups, the m900 provides the same analog and DAC quality as Grace Design's large monitor controllers, but in a rugged, portable, and surprisingly affordable unit.

The heart of the Grace Design m900 features the latest generation AKM 4490 chip, which includes 32-bit processing and support for sample rates up to 384 kHz or DSD256. The USB interface operates in asynchronous mode allowing the m900 to be the clock master, which makes the system immune to USB bus jitter. S/PDIF and TOSLINK inputs enhance any DAW interface with true reference-quality D/A conversion, headphone monitoring, and stereo speaker control.

The intelligent power supply design allows for two power operation modes, Low and High. Low power mode is derived from USB connection 1, which provides bus power along with data, allowing simple operation from a single connection to a computer. High power mode is available by connecting the included 2A USB DC power supply to USB connector 2, which provides additional power for high-impedance headphones.

The Grace Design m900 utilizes trans-impedance amplifier topology coupled to a zero-ohm output impedance driver for headphone performance that is spacious and transparent with a tight, enveloping low end, while the latest generation cross-feed circuit rounds out the design by emulating an acoustic listening environment in the headphones. The Grace Design m900 ships with a 2A USB power supply and two USB Type-B mini-cables (6' and 10'.)

  • USB, S/PDIF and TOSLINK digital inputs, supports up to 192 kHz (TOSLINK up to 96 kHz)
  • Asynchronous USB interface for jitter free computer audio playback, supports up to 384 kHz PCM and DSD256
  • Dual zero-ohm output impedance headphone outputs
  • Unbalanced level controlled outputs via RCA for connecting to a stereo monitor system
  • Compact, portable chassis perfect for travel, desktop or studio
  • Low power mode via USB Bus power
  • High power mode via included USB 2A power supply
  • Four different DAC filter settings to tailor playback performance to personal preference
  • Simple user setup menu for setup and calibration
  • Display: 7-segment LED displays level and setup menu information
  • Large rotary encoder for volume control and setup menu navigation
  • Made in the USA
  • 5-year transferable warranty

A little tight at first, but you get used to it. The clarity and soundstage are outstanding. Fast shipping from B&H. I would buy again.

Great Product, Great Store

I recently purchased Sennheiser HD650 headphones from B&H, and I couldn't be happier with the product and the service. The HD650 sound quality is stellar, with a balanced and natural sound signature that makes listening to my music much more enjoyable than with my old Beyer Dynamics. The bass is deep and well-controlled, the mids are lush and detailed, and the highs non-fatiguing. I appreciate the open-back design's expansive soundstage in orchestral recordings, making you feel like you're in the middle of a live performance. As to comfort, the HD650s are legendary, and these live up to the reputation; they're lightweight, and the velour ear pads soft, allowing for extended listening sessions without any discomfort. My only criticism is that the build quality is less robust than I was expecting in this price range.   B&H Photo made the purchasing experience seamless and enjoyable. Their website was easy to navigate, the ordering process was straightforward, and the shipping prompt. The price was outstanding, too. I recommend the Sennheiser HD650 headphones for their superb audio performance and B&H Photo for their excellent service.

Most PC sound cards will not drive these 300 Ohm headphones. Use a headphone amplifier.

Will they work with an iPhone or iPad?
Asked by: Lowell
The Sennheiser HD 650 Stereo Reference Headphones have a higher than average impedance rating of 300 ohms, so although they will work with any device that has a 3.5mm headphone jack, they may be quieter than expected when used with consumer devices such as phones and tablets. For that reason, using a separate headphone amplifier is recommended.

Yes they are replaceable with both Sennheiser brand and 3rd party cables. Also can replace them with balanced cables and shorter cables if you have a amp that supports balanced output.
