Sennheiser HD 650 overview

  • 1Description

The HD 650 from Sennheiser are reference class stereo headphones designed to deliver a true audiophile experience with open, natural sound. Specially developed acoustic silk was used to provide uniform attenuation over the entire area of each ear-cup. The lightweight aluminum voice coils ensure a remarkable transient response, while the full range drivers offer a frequency response of 10 Hz to 39.5 kHz. Great care was taken to ensure the headphones are comfortable with their elliptical design which naturally adapts to the shape of the ear.

The HD 650 utilizes a 3m detachable cable made from a highly conductive OFC copper with low handling noise and low structure-borne sound sensitivity. The headphones can be used with high output mobile devices and excel with high quality stationary hi-fi components, such as SACD, DVD-A, and CD players. The HD 650 ships with the detachable cable and 1/8" to 1/4" adapter.

  • Top-of-the-range open, dynamic hi-fi stereo headphones
  • Systems with narrow tolerances (± 1 dB), hand-picked in pairs
  • High-quality titanium / silver finish
  • Specially developed acoustic silk for precise, uniform attenuation over the entire area
  • Specially modulated connecting cable (detachable) made from highly conductive OFC copper, with very low handling noise
  • Extremely lightweight aluminum voice coils ensure excellent transient response
  • Comfortable to wear due to elliptical design adapted to the shape of the ears
  • Can be directly connected to stationary hi-fi components of the highest quality, in particular SACD, DVD-A and CD players

    Sennheiser HD 650 reviews

HD 650 - Reference Class Stereo Headphones is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 66.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sennheiser HD650 The best I've Heard Professional Film and Broadcast monitoring. They are very comfortable, you sometimes don't even realize you have them on. The 650's reproduce the entire audible sound range. I listen to sound with very high dynamic range (Close lightning strikes, explosions, jet engines, etc) all recorded with state of the art equipment. The 650's handle these sounds very smoothly and do not collapse at sudden high Db with low frequencies. They reproduce bass like nothing I've ever heard. All this; and I haven't even broken them in yet! (<40 hrs) The only thing I would add is kevlar netting around the cord (I have a cat that likes to chew on cables)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Audiophile Headphones at the this price range Honestly, this headphone can re-define the rules in terms of music clarity. I have experienced many different studio class audio products but what Sennheiser created is a magnificent piece of art. Most of the reference class products can give you an accurate sound but they may not suitable for long listening sessions, but this headphone does not bother your listening experience. After more than 20hours of listening, I would like to say that the Sennheiser Hd650 is more likely to be an headphone that may change your thoughts about the music that you have been listening to. The only problem with this headphone is the built quality. Since it is made out of hard plastic, some headphone enthusiasts especially the ones, who like the sense of high quality products, may not be satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sound, Average Materials First off these sound great compared to the HD 555's they replaced. Honestly, the 555's are great for devices that don't put out much power. But when you give the 650's some power they really excel. However, I'm quite surprised by the average materials on the 650's. In my opinion my 555's have better ear cups and head foam than the 650's. At least on the 555's the 'HD 555' is printed straight onto the plastic. On the 650s the 'HD 650' is a cheap sticker that's obviously covering a screw. I was really surprised the 650s were not a step up in materials. Sound quality is great, but wow materials are lacking. Still 5 stars because I got them to listen to not to look at.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sennheiser HD 650 Incredible Sound I recently purchased Sennheiser HD 650 headphones. They have crystal clear sound fidelity and they provide an incredible listening experience. I can hear subtle nuances in songs that i have never noticed before. I am using them to do some audio restoration work of old recordings and they are perfect for the task. In addition to their incredible sound, they are comfortable to wear and reasonably light. They are just a bit bulky, but not unreasonably so, given the superb sound quality. They are a bit pricey, but if you really value pristine sound quality they are worth it. I am very pleased and highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent in all respects The HD650 is the best I've ever put over my ears - and I've been an audiophile most of my 60 years. The sound is full and clear (response seems smooth throughout), and their construction seems completely solid. The fit is very comfortable. Worth the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive and well worth it The moment I put these on, I was instantly impressed and relieved: This was a great online purchase, sight unseen (unheard). They happily exceeded my expectations. I was not planning to take headphones in this price range to work, but now I'm not sure how I can exist without them. I prefer open-back, circumaural headphones for audiophile reasons and for the ability to hear what's going on around me in the workplace. These are a giant step up from the Sennheiser HD500s I was using. Made in Ireland.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My First Time I purchased these headphones for use in my sound classes. I really like these headphones and i am able to wear them for long periods of time with my glasses on. Since they are open ear for production sound they aren't the greatest since they leak, in and out. Its hard to tell if what you are hearing is from the headphones or just outside noise. For that i'll just have to buy a different pair that are closed. For my studio classes they are wonderful and i do not have to turn down the volume. Also i'm not isolated from people when they talk to me since I can still hear them...somewhat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Headphones I was looking into buying headphones to do ruff mixes when I am on the road. It was between the AKG K 701 and the Sennheiser HD650. I couldn't be happier with my decision. At first you need to break them in which might take a couple weeks of listening to music. As time goes they get better. I would recommend an external hi-fi amp to use with them. They can't run off your traditional computer headphone jack or ipod. I wear them for long period of time and are one of the most comfortable headphone to possibly wear. I would recommend this product.
