SmallRig RA-S280A Overview

The lightweight yet strong aluminum Air-Cushioned Light Stand with Boom Arm from SmallRig is portable and easy to use with a maximum load capacity of 11 lb. Suitable for different scenarios of still and video, it comes with an included metal boom arm that expands from 3.1 to 5.5' with up to 180° swivel for great control. Folding down to 3' for transport and storage, the stand has a working height of 9.2' and a generous footprint of nearly 4', providing a wide base and stable platform.

This stand features a 1/4"-20 threaded screw for additional mounting options and comes with an included sandbag, a stainless steel connector, and a metal hook for a securer accessory connection. The stand's nylon footpads are silent, anti-slip, and wear resistant. Additionally, its air-cushioned feature will also protect your fingers and keep your equipment safe as you gently lower the light for height adjustments.

This Stand Started Out As A Seemingly Great Value -- But It's Only Been A Few Weeks, And Already The Sections Are Sticking Where They Shouldn't, And Not Sticking Where They Should, And It's Becoming Worse Every Time I Adjust Something. It's Also Completely Non-repairable. Keep In Mind That I've Been Working WELL Within The Weight Limits. Think Godox Ad100 Sizes. Everything Started Out Solid, But Already, The Clamps Aren't Holding Tight. The Air Buffer Is Probably Really Doing A Lot To Assist Here, Because Things Will Spin Fairly Freely In Ways That Are, Frankly, Concerning. Picking This Up As A "good Value Boom Stand" Was A Novice Mistake, And I Should Have Known Better. Stick With Known Good Brands Like Matthews, Avenger, Or Similar... If You Just Need A Basic Stand, The Simple Westcott Heavy Duty Air Cushioned Stand Is A Better Value. "Boom Arms" Are Always Going To Be Tricky, And Weight Limits Are Often Under Specific Circumstances. This Particular Style Is Very Dodgy, And IMO You Are Better Off With A Grip Head Setup, Or A More Robust Boom Offering With Very Large Weight Capacity. Yeah, That Ain't Cheap, But Neither Is Buying The Stand You Actually Need When This Thing Invariably Breaks. Smallrig Makes Some Really Great Utilitarian Things, Much Of Which That I Will Continue To Use! But This Stand Isn't One Of Them. Very Disappointed.

Excellent quality, price and features. Love the air cushioning - many more expensive products do not include it. Very happy with it! You get a complete package with an extendable arm. No need to mix and match.

Yes, the SmallRig RA-S280A stand with arm is compatible with the SmallRig RC 220B light. Moreover, both the RC 220B-3473-US point-source video light (at 2,850g±20g) and the RA-D85-3586 parabolic softbox (at 1494g±5) — with a combined weight of 4.344 kg (2.85kg + 1.494kg) — are supported by the RA-S280A-3737 air-cushioned light stand with arm, which has a load capacity of 5 kg. So, when all is assembled, this particular combination (of light, softbox, and stand) weighs under the 5 kg load capacity of the light stand by 0.656 kg (656 g or 1.45 pounds), which provides a comfortable wiggle room. Theoretically, should you decide to add an extra 25g (due to MoE) for some extra peace of mind, then it still falls short of the 5 kg limit (by 631 g or 1.39 pounds). Cheers!
