Is it possible to fit a circular black pro mist filter between the step up ring and the vnd?
The SmallRig Star-Trail matte box cannot hold slide-in filter and circular filter at the same time. However, if the filter has front threads, you should be able to adapt the Smallrig screw on adapters to it and work with the filter attached to your lens.

SmallRig does not have a 95mm to 95mm screw on Matte Box adapter for the SmallRig Star-Trail Lightweight Multifunctional Modular Matte Box VND Filter Bundle (95mm Back), however the Tilta Adapter Ring for Tilta Mirage Matte Box (95mm), BH #TIMBT1695, would be a 95mm to 95mm screw on adapter. Compatibility is not guaranteed as this is a newly released item.
