SmallRig 3986 Overview

Smoothly mobilize just about any tripod and a small or midsize camera rig with the Universal Tripod Dolly from SmallRig. This universal dolly allows you to move tripods with ease along flat surfaces. Each of the large 3" diameter wheels features independent wheel brakes for locking the dolly in position, and dedicated locking screws secure the tripod in place.

Each leg can adjust from 12 to 17" in length, providing different height and angle choices for your tripod. The dolly is constructed from durable aluminum and can support loads up to 33 lb. Additionally, the legs fold when not in use, and an integrated carry handle makes it easy to transport.

I use this for a tripod desk when tethering. It's great for moving the tripod desk around, locking it in place and even making it taller by closing the legs closer together.

I’m using the Smallrig Freeblazer tripod with this dolly and I had hoped it would allow me to move the tripod easily in my fixed studio space. Unfortunately the tripod feed didn’t fit well into the dolly and when I was able to manage them to be somewhat secured, they would pull away from the dolly when raising or lowering the tripod because they aren’t very secure. I’ve abandoned the dolly and just drag the tripod around the floor as it’s much easier than having the tripod pull off the dolly and potentially damage my equipment.

Do the wheel locks prevent caster rotation as well as wheel rotation?

If your question is whether it can still "roll/turn" along its top axis (part that connects to the actual dolly) and not just lock the wheels (i.e. steering wheel of car still works even when foot on brake), I think the answer is that the turning is still free even when wheels locked. The locks only prevent wheels from rotating.

Overall the SmallRig Universal Tripod Dolly, and the Magnus DWF-2 are very similar folding universal dollies. The larger 3" size of the Smallrig wheels could improve movement if you are on a carpeted floor.
