Solid Wildlife Gear Hauler with a Few Design Tradeoffs

It’s a great bag, easily carries a super-telephoto lens with a pro body. My only two gripes are that the laptop sleeve doesn’t have a zipper and it doesn’t have back-panel access. It’s very well built and feels solid once you load it up, and everything stays well protected inside. I’ve carried my Z9 with the 800PF, plus the 100–400, and even a Z8 as a second body, along with a 24–70 and a few extra small accessories like batteries and cards, and it handled it fine. Space-wise it’s actually pretty impressive for that kind of kit.

THE best camera bag...period!

I purchased this in Mar 2022, and to this day never regretted that investment. One body, seven lens, pouched accessories, two extenders, gear pouch, etc. all fit nicely inside this TSA/Airline approved sized bag. Live in New England, went to Hawaii and Northwest US several times with no issue whatsoever. The quality of the fabric inside and out is top-notch. The configurability is create (love the dividers that hold small things like batteries!). The hip strap is removable...took mine off on day 1 and have never used it. (I'm a male, 6'1, 200 lbs as reference.) Lowepro is famous for its bags, and their variety of styles. This one is clearly for someone who wants to haul the photography gear with them on trips, be they urban or rural, doesn't matter (yes, there's a rain cover, too). The top lid is a fanny pack if you like the 80's and need one in a pinch. One Note: if you are flying, don't put the gear pouch under the top lid as the pictures show because it will be too tall (maybe for some airlines). Mine is in the main compartment and I still carry seven lens from macro, primes, and the venerable 70-200 with no room issues. One the road, sure, move it to the top. Depending on what you store in the gear box, it might make the pack top-heavy. What I do is just put soft items in the top lid...lens wipes, travel towel, straps, etc. No complaints. OK, have to have one con. The laptop compartment, while capable of a 16 MacBook Pro, is NOT environmentally sealed. The top is just a magnetic catch, from the top direction. The top lid might cover the opening if you cinch it down. This is the bags ONLY downfall in my opinion. Fortunately, I just carry cards and do processing back home. Get it...you will love it.

Would this fit a Nikon 800mm with or without a Z8 attached? and a separate 180-600?
Asked by: OVIDIU
The Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 550 AW II Backpack (Gray, 40L) would fit the Nikon Z8 plus the 180-600mm lens attached. It would be too small for the 800mm lens with the Z8 attached, but you can fit the camera plus both lenses.

What I mean about the straps is that they could get caught in the belts in the baggage area or be mishandled and ripped. ?
Asked by: John
The Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 550 AW II (40L) has a rain cover that you can stretch over the bag to limit the risk of the straps getting caught on a conveyor belt. Also most carry on luggage can be placed in a bin before it is scanned so it does not actually touch the belt.

Will the DJI Mini 4 Pro fit within the GearBox that is included with the Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 550?
Asked by: Maurice
Lowepro states that the Gear Box included in the Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 550 AW II Backpack (Gray, 40L) can fit the DJI Mavic Pro Drone, which is larger than the DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone, so the Mini 4 Pro should fit.
