Proper Pro Wildlife Bag with Much Better Access

It’s a solid pro wildlife bag and feels more refined than the 550 in real use. The back panel access makes a big difference, and the zippered laptop compartment is a nice upgrade. It comfortably carries my Z9 with 800PF, 100–400, and a Z8 as a second body, plus a 24–70 and a few accessories without feeling cramped. It’s still a heavy setup once fully loaded, but the harness system helps with weight distribution. Overall, it’s a proper field bag for big wildlife kits, just not something you want to carry light or casual.

The bag is what I've come to expect from Lowepro over the years: Solidly built, thoughtfully designed, sturdy wearing and comfortable with lots of useful features on the interior. But in the end it wasn't enough space in the camera compartment to accommodate a rigged FX6 with a few lenses, batteries, etc. + a Mavic 4 and necessary accessories. Nor did it have enough pockets outside the camera compartment to carry necessary essentials for a day out in the backcountry. So as much as I wished I could run this bag as I've been a loyal Lowepro customer for years, I had to return it and size up via a different brand.

The Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 650 AW II Backpack (Gray, 43L) (B&H# LOLP37481) is 24.4 x 13.4 x 12.2" (62 x 34 x 31cm) without the top pack added, so that's going to exceed the typical carry-on size permitted. That's not to say that the typical permitted size of 22 x 14 x 9" is a legal limit (it's not). Moreover, airline personnel are often lenient when flights aren't packed.
