Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Camera

Impressively small despite having a large full-frame sensor, the Canon EOS RP offers flexible imaging capabilities along with a portable form factor. Featuring a high-resolution 26.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor along with a DIGIC 8 image processor, both stills and UHD 4K video can be recorded using a broad sensitivity range, from ISO 100-40000, to suit working in a variety of lighting conditions. Continuous shooting is also supported at up to 5 fps for photographing moving subjects. The sensor also facilitates an advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, with 4779 selectable on-sensor phase-detection points for quickly and accurately acquiring focus during stills and video operation.

Complementing the sensor and processor, the RP also sports a 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder along with a rear 3.0" 1.04m-dot vari-angle touchscreen LCD monitor for easier viewing from high and low angles. Additionally, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth allow for wireless remote camera control along with direct image sharing to linked mobile devices.

Canon RF Lens Mount
The EOS RP features the RF lens mount, which support Canon's line of RF-mount lenses. This mount is characterized by its wide 54mm diameter and short 20mm flange-back distance, which promotes the ability to design lenses that are both faster and smaller than their SLR equivalents. The mount also incorporates a 12-pin electronic contact system for more sophisticated autofocus and image stabilization capabilities. This mount design also lends full compatibility to existing EF and EF-S-mount lenses via an optional EF-EOS R Mount Adapter.
26.2MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 8 Image Processor
A large 26.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor is featured and serves as an ideal balance between high-resolution output, low-light performance, and high-speed capabilities. When paired with the DIGIC 8 image processor, the EOS RP has a wide native sensitivity range from ISO 100-40000 for working in a variety of lighting conditions. Additionally, continuous shooting up to 5 fps is possible for working with moving subjects.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF
Dual Pixel CMOS AF offers smooth and fast focusing performance in a similar manner to how a camcorder acquires focus. This system integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network phase-detection gathering elements across a majority of the image sensor to reduce focus hunting for faster, more direct control of focus placement. When working with still imagery, this focusing system works to acquire focus quickly and accurately, making it ideally suited to shooting and tracking moving subjects so that critical focus is attained with each shot. When shooting video, a Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face or Eye Tracking priority. Benefited by the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen in order to change focus in an intuitive manner. Subject tracking in movies is also heightened due to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognize subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery. Additionally, the focus system is sensitive down to EV -5 for working in truly low-light conditions with accurate AF capabilities.
UHD 4K Video Recording
Designed for multimedia image-maker, the EOS RP supports UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution recording at up to 23.98 fps at 120 Mb/s, along with Full HD 1080p and HD 720p at 60 fps for slow motion playback. When recording in-camera, 4K video has 4:2:0 sampling and 8-bit color depth, and 4:2:2 8-bit output is possible when using an external recorder.

Audio can be recorded using the on-board stereo microphone or an optional external mic can also be used via the 3.5mm mic jack.

Also, 5-axis Dual Sensing IS can be used when recording video to electronically reduce the appearance of camera shake for sharper, smoother recording.
Body Design
  • Integrated 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder affords a bright and clear means for eye-level viewing.
  • Rear 3.0" 1.04m-dot LCD features a vari-angle design for easier use when working from high, low, and front-facing angles. It is also a touchscreen for intuitive control over shooting, playback, and menu navigation controls.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity enable wireless sharing, control, and image transfer with a compatible smart device via the Canon Camera Connect app, which also supports geotagging your files using your mobile device's location data.
  • In-camera charging over USB is supported for easier on-the-go charging.
EOS Webcam Utility
Extending the capabilities of the camera, Canon's EOS Webcam Utility software lets you turn your camera into a versatile webcam by just connecting it to a computer via USB. Compatible with a variety of streaming apps, including ZOOM, YouTube Live, Microsoft Teams, and more, this software also maintains the ability to record internally while livestreaming.

Sennheiser MKE 200 Ultracompact Camera-Mount Directional Microphone

Add the Sennheiser MKE 200 ultracompact and ultralightweight directional microphone to your camera- or smartphone-based shooting rig to make an easy upgrade in sound quality, even in noisy environments, without having to carry around a cumbersome windscreen and suspension system.

Thanks to its integral wind protection, built-in shock absorption, and battery-free operation, the MKE 200 is a truly simple, space-saving, plug-and-play solution for capturing audio—a perfect companion for vloggers, run-and-gun videographers, and mobile journalists who need a quality camera-mount mic that will never get in the way of the shot.

To ensure that you're prepared for any shoot, the MKE 200 includes two locking 3.5mm audio cables—one features a standard TRS plug for compatibility with cameras and DSLRs, while the other utilizes a TRRS plug to connect with your smartphone or tablet. Plus, the supplied furry windshield can be slipped over the MKE 200 to provide increased protection from wind noise when shooting in outdoor environments.

Ultracompact and Ultralightweight
Measuring just 2.7" long and weighing only 1.7 ounces, the MKE 200 is an unobtrusive companion for your camera- or smartphone-based video rig; it will never intrude on the shot and it's so light that you'll forget it's even there. Also, the integral shoe mount allows the MKE 200 to be attached directly to your camera, no external hardware required.
Directional Sound Pickup
Most built-in camera and smartphone microphones are omnidirectional to pick up sound from all directions, which results in undue noise and ambience. The MKE 200 uses a supercardioid polar pattern to capture sources in front of the mic while attenuating side- and rear-entry sound. Low-noise electronics and a sensitive condenser element allow it to deliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras, mobile devices, and portable recorders.
Quick and Secure Hookup to Camera, Smartphone, or Tablet
The MKE 200's 3.5mm output port can be connected to a range of devices using the two supplied coiled cables, each featuring a locking 3.5mm TRS plug on one end that prevents accidental disconnection at the mic.

One cable is terminated with a standard 3.5mm TRS plug for compatible hookup to your camera, DSLR, or portable handheld audio recorder, while the other cable has a 3.5mm TRRS plug to allow direct connection to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
No Batteries Required
Since the MKE 200 operates on plug-in power (2 to 10V), no batteries are required to run the microphone. Just hook up the MKE 200 to your camera or mobile device and forget about having to check, swap, or charge batteries.
Internal Suspension Mount Minimizes Handling Noise
The MKE 200 incorporates an internal suspension mount to reject the transfer of vibrations such as camera/smartphone handling noise. Plus, the bottom of the MKE 200 features a camera shoe mount, ensuring simple attachment to your camera or shoe-equipped stand or gimbal.
Built-In Wind Protection Minimizes Wind Noise
Knowing that the MKE 200 may be used in challenging shooting conditions, Sennheiser designed the MKE 200 with built-in wind protection, enabling the mic to lessen undesirable wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners without requiring that you slip on a separate foam windscreen. For maximum reduction of wind noise in outdoor environments, use the included furry windshield.

Canon RP Reviews

Excellent choice for skilled hobbyists

I bought this fine little camera as a Christmas gift for my husband, totally surprising him with it. He's already thrilled with the smaller size and weight - much different from his Canon 7D Mark II - and the transition from that camera to this one seems fairly easy. I got the R7 mirrorless in June and have had a great experience with it thus far, and I chose the RP for him because the two cameras share many of the same great features. Having had 6 months' experience with the R7 made setting up the RP pretty easy. In both cameras, the face and eye detection features work really well. If this bit of AI interests you as a potential buyer, my experience is that Canon has nailed it for these algorithms and I'm sure they'll only improve over time as the software engineers continue to tinker. The kit lens for the RP is certainly adequate for a range of shooting conditions that a hobbyist or semi-skilled photographer might encounter, but of course a maximum aperture of at least 2.8 is to be preferred for greater versatility in shooting conditions. As a high-school sports professional shooter, I have a wide array of Canon lenses that can be swapped around among the two 7D Mark II bodies and now the two RP bodies, so having the kit lens for the RP for my husband as a walking around lens with max of f4-7.1 isn't a huge disadvantage. Plus, the Canon R-mount adapter ring is reasonably priced and also is nothing but air, as is said, so there's no downside to using older lenses except for their weight. The RP is a very nice way to introduce a skilled hobbyist to the world of mirrorless photography in a camera loaded with features at an excellent price point.

EOS RP second body

Had RP for over two years before shipping camera to Canon USA service center. Problem diagnosed as failed circuit board (motherboard?). Got it fixed. I felt vulnerable not having a reasonably priced backup camera as I have several RF-mount lenses, and couldn't afford to have camera in shop again. Of course, camera was out of warranty. My choice was to purchase another RP body. Learning curve not an issue; already mastered this camera, more or less.

I was looking forward to using this camera, my first mirrorless as I had seen the astoundingly tack sharp pics. Gorgeous, sharp. I could not get the camera to focus. It back focused so I had to try to cheat it. Only a couple of keepers. I can't comment on the lenses as they were affected by this. I have bought the 50 mpg with mirror.

Better than I ever expected, when I first bought it, I thought it was a rash purchase. It took me some time to adapt to the jump so far ahead in cameras. Coming from ASP-C T2i, which was more akin to 35mm I started on. The features were overwhelming at first, set it aside for months. I regret not putting more time into it then. My images went from good to amazing. I will be soon upgrading to R6, and hopefully one day an R3. Thanks B&H!

This is my first introduction into the R series of Canon mirrorless line. I really enjoy how quick it is. I'm coming from a 5d Mark ii. I've enjoyed it so far. Good images, easy to use.

Loving it so far. Nothings perfect. The small form factor suits me just fine. I don't need all the bells and whistles. I just wanted to upgrade to full frame and stay with the Canon EOS product line. I bought a Canon 16mm F2.8 RF lens and a ProMediaGear L-bracket to use for real estate photography. Quiet and small too. Still learning about the camera. Some tweaking is required with white balance settings. Could be just my inexperience with the camera and lens. I'll figure it out.

Perfect As Is

Just went from an original 6D to the RP. LOVED the 6D for pics, but could use some auto-focus for video. As it turns out - pics are even better and now video is flawless. There are better, but the RP has everything I need and nothing I don't. I'm an enthusiast and occasional professional (here and there by word-of-mouth, but am keeping my day job), but probably better than most professionals and I LOVE the RP; A LOT.

I had a Canon rebel t6 before the RP and just wanted to step my foot into the mirror less system. I think the RP is great for beginners. The only thing I don't like so far is the battery life.

Yes, it crops to a 1.6 APS-C size. You can use EF-S lenses like the Canon 10-22mm to regain a wide view. When used with adapters such as the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, the sensor is automatically cropped.
