Sigma 85mm T1.5 FF High Speed Prime (ft) Overview

The enhanced 85mm T1.5 FF High-Speed Cine Prime from Sigma combines the same high-quality optics and mechanics of its FF prime line with a cine-oriented design, and it now utilizes Cooke /i Technology that provides lens metadata to assist in post and visual effects production. This 85mm prime with PL mount is a longer focal length in the series, offering full-frame sensor coverage, 6 to 8K resolution, fully luminous lens markings in feet, and a T1.5 aperture in a compact, lightweight form.

A common 95mm front diameter and similar physical attributes across the lens line makes it easier and quicker to mount lens accessories such as matte boxes, follow focuses, and lens control motors. The 9-bladed iris produces pleasing out-of-focus bokeh effects and ghosting and flaring have been minimized. Color reproduction is standardized for easier color correction. Each lens in the range offers consistent lens gear positions and 180° of focus barrel rotation. The FF High-Speed Cine Prime lenses also feature a clickless iris with linear markings, dampeners on each gear ring for silent operation, industry-standard 0.8 MOD gear pitch, and engraved markings for durability.

Sigma 85mm T1.5 FF High Speed Prime (ft) Reviews

Amazing glass!

I compared many lenses in this range, and it came down to these and the Tokina Vistas. The Tokina's had a beautiful image, but for $6k a lens, I was sure if the value was there. So I pulled the trigger on a set of these sigmas, and I couldn't be happier. It's the best value for the dollar. I've used their art photo line, but these seem to have a better resolution, they are crispier, and the bokeh falls off like butter. You won't find a better value for the price. The next level up is $6-7k, then $10k

Big fan of the Sigma Cine line

This 85mm is a new addition to my Sigma lens set. I already use the 20, 24, 35 and 50, and they are all simply fantastic. First off, these lenses are FAST! 20mm T1.5??? Whaaat? That's madness. Next, they are all incredibly sharp wide open. No need to stop down to get a nice, crisp image. And with the sharpness, comes a beautiful creamy bokeh and great texture and colors. Add to that a (relatively) small size for a cine lens, a nice focus throw/rotation for super accurate focus, beautiful build quality and 8K ready, and you have an excellent tool for many years to come.

When shooting in the set, have you ever thought that you wish the focus of these lenses had a 300-degree rotation instead of 180? Would you mind describing the situation?
Asked by: Steve K
Large focus throws are imperative when working with significantly shallow depth of field.

What does "fully luminous" mean?

What does "fully luminous" mean?
Asked by: Christopher
For the Sigma 85mm T1.5 Fully Luminous FF High-Speed Prime (EF Mount, Feet), "Fully Luminous" refers to the markers on the lens being glow in the dark so you can view them in low light.
