Great cage with annoying flaw

SmallRig makes great cages, unfortunately for my purposes, this cage has annoying flaw. I power my cameras using v-mount batteries, I use a dummy battery to connect the v-mount. To remove the dummy battery, you have to remove the cage, the cable gets in the way. Super annoying, I don't like removing the cage if I don't have to. Otherwise a good cage.

Great for body protection/accessory handling.

Great camera cage for my R8. Works and fits perfectly. My only issue is that if I want to use a fake battery for my R8, I have to completely remove the camera cage and use it without the cage. It's not a deal breaker for me. Still a fantastic product.

No, the SmallRig Camera Cage for Canon EOS R8 is not compatible with the BG-C18 Battery Grip for Canon EOS RP and R8 Mirrorless Cameras.

If I buy this cage, can I mount the camera on it's side for vertical shooting on a tripod without having to buy anything extra?

The SmallRig Camera Cage for Canon EOS R8 can be mounted on either side for vertical shooting by simply attaching your tripod plate.
