Apogee Electronics Symphony I/O Mk II Overview

From Manufacturer

Apogee Electronics sets a new standard with the flagship Symphony I/O Mk II 16x16 Special Edition Dante and Pro Tools HD, an audio interface that features the latest and greatest conversion technology from Apogee for ultralow latency, noise, and distortion. Loaded with the updated 16x16 SE AD/DA conversion card, this interface sports 16 channels of analog balanced I/O on four DB-25 connectors, plus S/PDIF I/O for high-resolution sampling from 44.1 to 192 kHz.

On this interface, you also get two RJ45 Dante ports for easy integration with Dante audio networks, and a Mini-DigiLink Port with Loop Sync I/O for use with Pro Tools HD/HDX systems. Like all Apogee Symphony I/O Mk II units, the 16x16 SE is a modular interface, allowing you to expand as you go for a maximum of 32 analog inputs and outputs, as well as numerous other optional modules for different configurations that will suit any application. Control is easy via the bright front-panel touchscreen and the convenient Symphony I/O Monitor Workflow software. This unit includes an AC power cord to get you started.

New with Symphony I/O Mk II 16x16 SE
Hear the Difference
The 16x16 Special Edition is Apogee's best-performing conversion ever. With a greater dynamic range and a lower total harmonic distortion, your listening experience will change forever.
Built for Immersive Audio
Start working with Immersive audio systems without needing an external monitor controller. Thanks to Symphony I/O's Monitor Workflow.
20% More Efficient
In an impressive feat of electrical engineering, the 16×16 SE I/O module has fewer parts than its predecessor while also running about 20% more efficiently. That means a cooler running interface, even if you decide to upgrade to a fully loaded 32×32 chassis.
The Symphony I/O Mk II Family
Dante and Pro Tools Compatible
The 16x16 SE is ready for AoIP applications and immediate integration into existing Pro Tools rigs.

  • Ideal for powerful audio-over-IP applications in postproduction, broadcast, live sound, or recording studio networks
  • Uses Audinate's Dante Brooklyn II module, which sports two Dante ports and plug-and-play media networking for up to 32 bidirectional channels at 96 kHz or 16 bidirectional channels at up to 192 kHz
  • Pro Tools HD peripheral port allows Mini-DigiLink connectivity to your Pro Tools HDX, HD Native, or Core/Accel system for up to 32 bidirectional channels at up to 192 kHz (I/O modules available separately)
  • Allows routing between Pro Tools, Dante, and modules
  • Works seamlessly with any other Dante-powered devices
Front-Panel Touchscreen
All of Symphony I/O Mk II’s essential input and output settings can be accessed from the front-panel touchscreen. Change your input selection, monitoring levels, mic pre gain, or calibrate your Symphony I/O Mk II to match the levels of the other analog gear in your system.

A high-resolution TFT display delivers all the visual feedback critical for recording and monitoring. Without looking at your computer, Symphony I/O Mk II lets you see metering for up to 64 channels of I/O, 32 inputs x 32 outputs, as well as signal levels, polarity, muting, phantom power, and Soft Limit.

Stay Cool with Dynamic Temperature
Symphony I/O Mk II features advanced controls to keep the unit running at an ideal temperature, ensuring the highest level of performance and reliability. The new temperature controls can be accessed form the touchscreen and control software, and are complemented by an improved fan and chassis ventilation design, which allows adequate component cooling to occur quietly.
Symphony Control Software
Symphony Control software for macOS gives you comprehensive access to all features and functions of Symphony I/O Mk II Dante and Pro Tools HD. Manage routing, control output levels, set calibration, set up multiple mixers, and more.

And with Symphony I/O Mk II’s new Monitor Workflows, you can effortlessly configure and operate your monitoring system for Dolby Atmos, Sony 360 Reality Audio, and other immersive audio systems with control of up to 32 speaker outputs.

Note:
Symphony Control also features compatibility with the optional Apogee Control hardware remote. Remote not included.
Standalone Mode
Standalone Routing lets you setup and use Symphony I/O Mk II without a computer. From the front-panel touchscreen you can set up Symphony I/O Mk II for use in hi-fi systems as a standalone AD/DA converter or as a preamp module.
ESS Saber32 DAC Technology
The ESS Saber32 32-bit Hyperstream DAC with Time Domain Jitter Eliminator offers unequalled dynamic range, ultralow distortion, and unmatched audio clarity free from input jitter. Symphony I/O Mk II’s D/A section has been optimized with a more powerful and robust analog output driver.

This newly designed high-current, low-impedance circuit is capable of driving virtually any input with absolutely no decrease in performance, regardless of the load presented by the connected gear. This becomes especially important when connecting vintage gear with difficult load impedances and elevated operating levels, sometimes over long cables—Symphony I/O MK II maintains fidelity and punch through it all.

Audiophile-Grade Headphone Monitoring with Constant Current Drive
Symphony I/O Mk II features a single ultrahigh-fidelity DAC and headphone amplifier featuring Apogee's Constant Current Drive technology, first introduced in the Apogee Groove. This unique approach to headphone amplification dynamically compensates for the nonlinearities of any connected headphones, providing massive power while maintaining extremely low distortion and linear frequency response.
