Kowa TSN-66A 66mm Spotting Scope Overview

From Manufacturer

With its easy portability and a sharp, aberration-free image, the angled-viewing TSN-66A 66mm PROMINAR Spotting Scope from Kowa is built for nature observation in the wild. A separately sold eyepiece is required for use.

The scope's fully sealed, nitrogen-purged housing is made of durable but lightweight magnesium, keeping its weight down to just 2.5 pounds. Kowa's pure fluorite crystal objective lens all but eliminates fringing for color accuracy and clarity, and the dual fast/fine focus makes it easy to dial in the details of your subject. The tripod mount has two holes with adapters that accept both 1/4" and 3/8" posts. A detachable aiming sight on the accessory collar and another, built-in sight on the sunshade help orient the scope toward the subject. The threaded collar with bayonet mount accepts a wide range of accessories, eyepieces, camera adapter for digiscoping, extenders, and more.

Kowa TSN-66A 66mm Spotting Scope Reviews

Great scope

We purchased this for birding use in Arizona, and it performs well. Clarity is exceptional. I actually wanted a second Swarovski for out west but the cost was much higher than it used to be. The Kowa does just as good a job.

Observing and digiscoping shore birds and wildlife

The Kowa 66-A is mounted atop a Gitzo Traveller 2 tripod, creating a lightweight system perfect for short to moderate hikes. I use the Ollin digiscoping system to attach my iPhone to the eyepiece for photography. Yields some surprisingly good wildlife photos. Zoom eyepiece is very comfortable with superb natural colors, great detail and clarity. I remove my glasses when observing in order to eke out every bit of quality this scope delivers. Works well at higher magnification and longer distances, seemingly degraded only by atmospheric distortion and haze. Pricey, but outstanding quality and performance.
