Celestron SkyMaster Pro ED 15x70 Reviews

Fine for low price. Stiff focus, false color on Moon.

I like the 15x70's enough to keep them. Way too heavy for hand held. Not too heavy for easy tripod mounting. They have almost enough magnification to satisfy on Saturn and Jupiter. Focus is stiff. I can get very sharp images with my telescopes, but NOT with these Celestron 15x70's. The stars are always irregular, slightly smeared. Never sharp points. I cannot see even half of the field of view with my glasses on. With the glasses off, I can see most of the field, but not all. Obvious false color on the edge of the moon. Yellow and purple fringe. Even so, the Moon does look lovely thru these binoculars. Just the right magnification for a spectacular view. I bought these binos to share with my Community Ed Astronomy classes. The students like them well enough. They are able to set the interpupillary distance, and able to set focus for their own eyes. The case is cheap. No place for lens caps or the cover for the tripod adapter socket. The coating on the binos is adequate but looks and feels cheap, not rubbery.

Any hands-on reviews of 15x70 ED vs. 20x80 ED, and pros & cons of each? Which is better for astro’ viewing?
Asked by: John
The Celestron 20x80 SkyMaster Pro ED Binoculars are brighter and have more magnification than the Celestron 15x70 SkyMaster Pro ED Binoculars, and are better for "Astro Viewing"; users will agree. The biggest challenge using the Celestron 20x80 SkyMaster Pro ED Binoculars, is to make sure the tripod that is keeping the image steady is secure.
