Upgraded Nikon base plate with Kirk to improve stability with a known high quality product. I believe lens manufacturers use value lens plates and feet to keep lens cost down, probably a good business decision. They know that most prosumer users are going to scrap the original equipment and upgrade with high quality to match the lens quality. The Kirk low profile plate fits well and is light and simple to install. The Z8 + Z400/f4.5S is light for super-tele so I don’t need the foot to serve as a grip handle. The Kirk works perfectly with my Wembeley Gimbal, Gitzo Tripod, Markins Ball Heads and Black River Carry Straps.

I've used these on several bodies for Arca-Swiss mounting convenience, for protection of the bottom plate, and for attaching straps using the QD system. I trust Kirk more than no-name plates for secure QD attachment.

Can this plate be rotated 90 degrees on the bottom of the camera, for use with a gimbal head configuration?
I question the other answer to this question. The plate shows a raised tab that will only allow it to fit on the Z8 in one direction.
