Capture moments of musical inspiration and build compositions on the go with the Zoom R4 MultiTrak recorder. Combining a workflow similar to classic portable 4 track recorders with 21st century digital features, the R4 offers musicians a compact and travel-ready miniature studio complete with two XLR/TRS combo inputs, a built-in microphone, volume faders, 2" color LCD, stereo 3.5mm output for monitoring, effects, and even built-in rhythms to help you get ideas down. Audio is recorded to microSD, and cards of up to 1TB are supported. A 1/4"-20 thread allows you to easily mount it to a tripod or other accessory, while nonskid rubber feet help keep it from moving on flat surfaces.

Can the preamps drive a Shure SM7b? Whats the preamp gain?
Zoom has not specified the amount of gain available from the Zoom R4 MultiTrak 32-Bit Float Recorder with Stereo Bouncing's preamps. This is typical for 32-bit devices, since gain adjustment is neither possible nor necessary. Since it is a 32-bit recorder, it should be capable of making a satisfactory recording with even a low-output dynamic mic such as the Shure SM7b.

Maybe a specialist can clarify on what tracks means vs inputs, what stereo bouncing is and where effects go, on the 4 tracks? TY
You can mix up to 4 separate audio tracks within the Zoom R4 MultiTrak 32-Bit Float Recorder with Stereo Bouncing. It has 2 combination inputs, so you can connect an XLR connection mic or line source, or a 1/4'' connection mic or line source into either of the 2 inputs on the bottom of the recorder. Stereo bouncing means that you can create a single stereo track of everything that you are mixing on the recorder. Track effects are 3-band EQ, pan, echo, and reverb, available for each track. Input effects can be applied to each of the physical inputs while recording, like amp simulation for guitars, delay. and distortion.
