Samsung 990 PRO Internal SSD Overview

Built using their V-NAND 3-bit MLC flash technology and in-house controller, the Samsung 4TB 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 Internal SSD offers an M.2 2280 form factor and a PCIe 4.0 x4 / NVMe 2.0 interface to deliver sequential read speeds of up to 7450 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 6900 MB/s. Users will also have access to encryption via TCG/Opal 2.0 and MS eDrive, while a TBW (Total Bytes Written) rating of 2400TB helps ensure a long operational life.

The integrated heatsink helps to enhance performance by quickly dissipating heat to provide longer sustained speeds. The 990 PRO SSD and heatsink are designed to fit into desktop and laptop systems that comply with the PCI-SIG D8, 8.8mm standard. It can also fit in the Sony PlayStation 5. The heatsink has RGB LED lights to add style to function.

Maximum Speed
Get sequential read speeds of up to 7450 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 6900 MB/s with the 990 PRO and push the limits of what SSDs can do. Dell has not published specs on the internal clearance available inside the XPS 9530, but in general drives with heatsinks such as the Samsung 4TB 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 Internal SSD with Heatsink will not be able to fit inside laptops.

The MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk has its own M.2 heatsinks; you would need to buy the non-heatsink version of the Samsung 4TB 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 Internal SSD with Heatsink, B&H # SAMZV9P4T0C.

The Samsung 2TB 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 Internal SSD is not intended for use as an external drive. To use it as one, you would need an external chassis such as BH #SAECSNVE. You would also need to initialize and format the drive for your operating system.
