Can this mixer RECEIVE a sound signal via bluetooth from a source (e.g., a phone)? Or does bt only send out? Or both ways?

Yes, the Pyle Pro PMAX4 4-Channel Compact Streaming Line Mixer with Bluetooth has a built-in Bluetooth receiver, so it can receive audio input signal from a smartphone or other Bluetooth-enabled device, but it cannot send audio out via Bluetooth.

If you connect a stereo TRS input, and then select 'mono' with the switch, what is the result? (Only left? Sum? Short together?)

If you connect a stereo TRS cable to an input on the Pyle Pro PMAX4 4-Channel Compact Streaming Line Mixer with Bluetooth and then select the 'Mono' button, the result is mono.

When the mono button is down, does it short the tip and ring of that channel input?

If you connect a TRS cable to an input on the Pyle Pro PMAX4 4-Channel Compact Streaming Line Mixer with Bluetooth and select 'Mono' for that channel, it effectively becomes a TS input.

Does it sum both channels when set to mono? (As opposed to: only left? Only right? Or maybe it shorts the signals together?)

Per the MFR, the Pyle Pro PMAX4 4-Channel Compact Streaming Line Mixer with Bluetooth does not sum the mix to mono. There is a switch on each input to toggle between mono/stereo operation for that channel only.
