What is the front cap size for this lens? Is it 77mm? 82mm? or different size? I understand there is no filter thread.
Asked by: Saud
The lens cap for the Canon RF 10-20mm f/4 L IS STM Lens (Canon RF) comes with the lens and it is a proprietary fit. Please take a look at the following link: https://bhpho.to/45BXzIK. Since the lens itself is 83.7 x 112 mm the cap will be around 84mm in size.

The Canon RF 10-20mm f/4 L IS STM Lens (Canon RF) is compatible with this type of gelatin filter: Kodak 3 x 3" Neutral Density (ND) #96 2.0 Optical Gelatin Wratten 2 Filter. You cut it to size with a scissors. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/587886-REG

Is the Built-in petal-shaped lens hood removable?

Is the Built-in petal-shaped lens hood removable?
Asked by: Brian
No, due to the nature of the optical glass design on the Canon RF 10-20mm f/4 L IS STM Lens (Canon RF), the lens hood is not removable. It's in place to protect the glass, since it's a dome shape and protrudes out.

The lens’s circumference looks noticeably smaller ...

The lens’s circumference looks noticeably smaller than the EF 11-24mm lens, is it smaller enough so that a filter company like Kase could make an adapter to fit a front filter holder, so 4x6 filters can be used, or is it more likely to need need an adapter that requires Lee’s SW150 size filters?
Asked by: Khurram
The DSLR predecessor to this lens, the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM, has very similar demands for a front filter system. Fotodiox eventually came out with a WonderPana XL system for that lens (Look it up on B&H). I would imagine they will eventually produce a similar system for the Mirrorless RF 10-20mm f/4L IS STM lens if there is enough demand. Most of the parts would be identical with the only change being the core mounting pieces that actually physically mount on the lens body. They would be sized for the unique dimensions of the 10-20mm lens. No telling how long it will be, if ever. All you can do is wait while keeping an eye out.

Is there an option to use a variable ND with this lens?
Asked by: Jason
Unfortunately, the Canon RF 10-20mm f/4 L IS STM Lens does not have front filter threads, so you could not screw in a variable ND filter on it.

What is the front cap (that cover the glass/hood) ...

What is the front cap (that cover the glass/hood) size for The Canon RF 10-20mm f/4 L IS STM? Lens
Asked by: Saud
The specs give the OD of the lens as 83.7mm, so the the ID of the cap (looks like a pillbox hat) would have to be about 85-86mm ID minimum. This is based on my measurements of the similar construction of the EF 11-24mm L USM ultrawide lens that I own. This gives a clearance of 1mm all the way around the circumference of the fixed hood. The depth of the cap is sufficient to allow it to completely enclose the depth of the petal cutout of the fixed hood. My lens and hood have a larger OD and ID, but the design is very similar. The staff answer that the cap design is proprietary is correct, and there is no other cap like it.
