SmallRig CT-10 Aluminum Tripod with Ball Head Reviews

Broke after light use...

I wanted to love this tripod, because it looks modern if not futuristic, its light and very compact, and it comes with a carrying case. Unfortunately, the many issues this tripod has and the fact that it is now broken, has made me look toward other brands for a replacement. First of all, I only used this tripod to take 3D videos for my Real Estate job because of the small foot print. My 3D camera weighs no more that 2 lbs, probably even less. Despite this, I had to constantly tighten and re-tighten the legs on this tripod because they kept coming loose. The good thing is that this tripod comes with an allen wrench so I made sure not to loose it. Keep in mind that I I'm not taking 3D videos daily, maybe 4-5 times per month. Not only that, the rubber feet on this tripod kept getting loose and falling off(and dissapearing) causing me to replace them on more than one occasion. The hook on the center column that allows you to hang weights to the tripod, mysteriously unscrewed itself one day from the center column and dissapeared never to be found again. The rubber grips used to raise and lower the center column from the base separated from the metal inner casing making it annoyingly difficult, to raise and lower the center column. This is about as cheap as you can get ! Finally one of the plastic clamps that are used to tighten the legs to certain heights or angles, cracked making it impossible for me to adjust the legs on the tripod. The leg became unusable because it could no longer hold the weight of a camera weighing less that 2 lbs. This tripod is fine for Sunday scrolls through the park, or light travel, but it is not built for every day use, much less 4-5 times per month. It looks good on paper, but only lasted me about a year. The good thing is that at this the price point you really can't complain for what you are getting.

I have a bunch of SmallRig products and love most of them. I use them frequently in my run-and-gun photo/video business. However this tripod disappointed me. It functions (well, functioned) decently enough... but one of the plastic cam collars that tighten the adjustable legs simply broke under normal tightening stresses. I was doing a real estate shoot at the time, not exactly a high-stress work environment. Heck, I have an ancient SLIK tripod that's been through much worse treatment for decades and still works. I confess to trying to save some bucks with this SmallRig piece in the first place... I guess I will spend more on its replacement.
