RODE NT1 Signature Series Overview

Sporting the same warm, silky sonic character that made the NT1 series a go-to studio workhorse for millions, the black NT1 Signature Series Studio Condenser Microphone from RODE is the latest edition of the iconic large-diaphragm mic. With an incredibly low self-noise of 4 dBA and a high SPL handling of 142 dB, the NT1 Signature Series is a versatile Swiss Army knife built to deliver a classic studio sound for a range of applications, from vocal and instrument recording to podcasting, content creation, and voice-over work.

The classic RODE HF6 1" true condenser capsule brings a smooth frequency response and high sensitivity to the table. The internal JFET impedance converter and bipolar output buffer help contribute to the low noise and clean sound. The cardioid pickup pattern helps you avoid unwanted sounds to the rear and sides, a vital feature for podcasting and content creation in untreated spaces. The finish is highly durable, resisting scuffs, scratches, and other physical blemishes that can plague well-used workhorse mics. The NT1 Signature Series includes a 20' XLR cable, an SM6 shockmount and pop filter, and a dust cover.

Internally Shock-Mounted HF6 Cardioid Condenser Capsule
  • Behind the protective mesh grille, the mic features Rode's 1" gold-sputtered HF6 capsule, designed to provide a detailed midrange response with smooth highs and warm bass
  • The cardioid polar pattern focuses audio capture on the source in front of the mic, picking up less unwanted ambient sound from the back and sides
  • The transducer itself is suspended inside the microphone, using Rycote's industry-leading Lyre system, minimizing external vibrations at the capsule level The capsule is then married to high-grade electronics that have been designed to provide an extremely low noise level. The NT1 Signature Series is an incredibly quiet microphone, measuring only 4 dBA of self-noise
  • The mic is powered by phantom power through the XLR connector
Bundled Accessories
  • The NT1 Signature Series is supplied with the SM6, a studio-grade suspension shockmount that provides isolation from external physical factors that may cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone
  • The SM6 includes a removable pop shield with two axes of adjustment and a telescopic arm for ultimate application versatility
  • The mic also comes with a balanced 20' XLR microphone cable
  • A dust cover is also supplied

RODE NT1 Signature Series Reviews

First XLR mic, still use it after spending way more on other mics

Got this on amazon 2 or 3 years ago, I initially was very impressed by the quality and fidelity but the lack of noise isolation almost made me return it. It's a very sensitive studio mic, because of that, if you have PC fans, or HVAC running, this mic will hear it wayyy better than you ever could. I have a somewhat loud PC, and I'm pretty quiet in my music so I needed something else for clean audio. I bought the wrong mic for what I needed at the time, that's not the NT1's fault. It has its own place. If you have a quiet environment and speak at a reasonable level close to the capsule, this mic will be great. I have since bought an RE-20, LS-208, SM58, UA SD-1, MD 421 II, SE8, and more. It's not that those mic's aren't amazing mics, but I still bring out my NT1 sig series for studio recordings. The NT1 has a flat, and neutral sound which makes it a solid pick for a massive variety of sound sources, especially when you just want to capture what you really hear. People sometimes say the NT1 sounds boring, that's because real life sounds boring. There's nothing flashy or particularly unique about the way this sounds, which makes it perfect for shaping the sound you want in post processing. Studios all around the world have an NT1, it's kind of a studio essential, because it's cheap and does it's job well enough for the most trained ears. Last thing, very few good quality microphones on the market come with as much equptment as the NT1 signature series does. The XLR cable, shock mount, and pop filter can add up to $80. That's half the price of this mic. If you've never had an XLR condenser mic and you just want the high quality audio experience, this is the perfect starting point, but again be aware of the sensitivity to noises of this mic. It doesn't care what noise it's picking up, it will pick it up in incredible detail.
