Domke Sling Bag Reviews
Great Travel Bag
Light weight and holds more than you think
Simple, good in-between size
Construction is good, what you would expect from Domke but also as expected it’s not revolutionary. The nylon is a good material for this bag because it is lighter and slides well around to the front of you easily. Size is good, holds more then you would expect but not so much you are weighed down. The main compartment holds an R5 with rf 70-200 f4 attached, a rf 24-105 f4 and a rf 35mm f1.4 on each end. Of course it also works with the 24-105 attached instead. If you carry the R5 then you could put a longer zoom in its place and still carry the rest. Instead of that choice I just put the rf 100-500 in a belt pouch. A full outer compartment does not take room from the inside. As expected the dividers are meh, replace them with the Grumbler divider (sold at B&H). This allows more customization and adds some additional lateral structure to the bag. I added a cut grumbler section on each end for the extra lenses. I cut a half moon out of the top of each that helps me grab the lens easier. I also curved one divider to provide sufficient space for the R5 eyecup. The zipper gets some bad reviews, which is fair. I added a paracord loop and have had no issues. The strap is good, padding is fine, and stability strap is good. Both straps have quick disconnects which is great in case you get hung on something. It would be great if you could switch shoulders but you can’t. You could one-strap it on the left shoulder if you wanted some relief. I’m considering a conversation with my tailor, I think it’s a pretty easy fix but not sure if I care that much. Bag padding is sufficient as long as you’re not irresponsible and it’s easily as padded as every other sling pack. Storage pockets in the outer compartment are nice. Outer compartment space is nice as well. It is not over engineered, doesn’t add of features that I wouldn’t use. Good addition for a photo journalist that likes a belt system but needs a slimmer profile at times. Plus you can avoid being a peak design boi
